2021 Reading Challenge

Welcome to the Read Another Page Reading Challenge!

What would a blog with a title like Read Another Page be without reading challenges?

I don’t know about you, but reading challenges have made me read many more books than I usually do. And some are even ones I wouldn’t have picked up otherwise. So let’s challenge ourselves with some reading this year! This will be the 4th year I’ve hosted a reading challenge on my blog. And each year has been different. This year is no exception. Are you ready to join?

The challenge starts on January 1st and ends on June 30.
This year’s challenge is all books on your To Be Read stack

First the rules because what’s a challenge without rules?

  1. These books may be read in any order. You do NOT have to start at the top and read down.
  2. You may count any books you read for this challenge for other challenges if you wish.
  3. In order for your books to count they must be read in 2021 between January 1 and June 30.
  4. Unless indicated all books must be at least a few chapters in length. (Even two or three chapters, but they must have chapters!)
  5. This challenge starts January 1st, and ends June 30th 2021. Any books read during that time count.
  6. ALL books read MUST be on your TBR (To Be Read) list before January 1st.

Earning Points:

To earn points you can read book, write reviews, and invite friends to join the challenge. Here is how it works.
Once you’ve read your first 4 books (whatever 4 those happen to be) you will get your first Point. After that, it will be as follows:

  • Read 4 books = 1 point
  • Every 2 books read after that = 1 point
  • Review 4 books = 1 point
  • Every 2 books reviewed after that = 1 point
  • For every friend who joins (and mentions your name), you will get a point after they have read their first 4 books.

Now let’s get started!

To sign up simply send me an email and let me know you’re joining. (If a friend told you about the Reading Challenge, make sure you mention their name to me when you join so they get credit.) I’ll add your name to the Reading Companions page. (You can use the Contact form if you do not already have my email address.)

When you’ve read a book (or more than one if you’d rather) comment on this 2021 Reading Challenge Page and I’ll mark you down for those books.

Ready for that list yet?

  1. Short Story
  2. Short Story
  3. Title starts with a vowel
  4. Has been on your TBR list for over a year
  5. A book you keep putting off
  6. A physical book
  7. A kindle book, or TBR book of your choice if you don’t read on kindle
  8. A book with no people on the cover
  9. A book you got on sale
  10. Title starts with a letter from A-K
  11. Title starts with a letter from L-Z
  12. A book with a female on the cover
  13. A book you didn’t pay anything for
  14. Let a sibling or friend pick a book for you from TBR books you own

Haven’t got my review up for my next read yet, but I’ll be coming back and commenting soon!
Quick question, though – if I’m reading a collection of three novellas, published together in a paperback but listed (and, for me, reviewed) separately on Goodreads, does it count as one or three? Goodreads lists both options. They’re all long enough to be a few hours on audiobook and they have chapters – but they were originally published in one book.

If each of the stories has a few chapters and is also published separately, you can count them as 3 books even if they are all together. As long as all 3 books were on your TBR list before January. πŸ™‚ Great question.

I have a few books to add:
#3 – Title starts with a vowel: Only the River Runs Free; review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3725692618?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1
#4 – Has been on your TBR list for over a year: Waves of Mercy; review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1776787322
    #5 – A book you keep putting off: Sarah’s Patchwork; review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2819608188
#6 – A physical book: The Curiosity Keeper; review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1891616019
#10 – Title starts with a letter from A-K: Janice Meredith; review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2487880207?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1
#13 – A book you didn’t pay anything for: School Days; review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2634142492
#18 – A book you keep saying you’re going to read but haven’t yet: Attack of the Amazons; review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1770379487
#19 – A TBR book you’ve had for over two years: A Light in Zion; review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3743067423

I’m having fun so far! For #7 (a kindle book), would this need to be on an actual kindle device, or could it just be an ebook?

Haha, all right. πŸ˜‰ I read one for an ebook, and reviewed it, too:

#7 – a kindle book: “How it Happened”; review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2723538011
#15 – A TBR book over 200 pages: “Far Side of the Sea”; review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2414666834

In the rules you said all books must have chapters, unless otherwise indicated. Are short stories “otherwise indicated”, or must they have chapters, as well?
