5 Tips for Reading More

May 24, 2022 by readanotherpage 4 Comments

Do you have a stack of books you are wanting to get read? Do you ever wonder how you are going to find time to read them? I’ve felt the same way. However, I’ve found some helpful tips I’m going to share with you. So get ready.

[1. Spare Minutes

If you have 10 minutes before lunch, go and read a few pages. If you have fifteen minutes before you need to leave, pick up your book and read. If may feel like you aren’t getting anywhere, but those minutes add up.

[2. Before Bed

I like to read 30-40 minutes just before I turn out the light and go to bed. Not only does this help me get my reading in, but I sleep better if I’m not on a screen just before I head to bed. It’s been proven many times that the light of screens causes you not to sleep was well, so if you read before bed, read a real book not one on your phone or device.

[3. Cut Social Media

This may sound strange, but if you spend even half of the time reading that you would normally spend on social media, or on just this, that, and the other on the computer or your phone, you’ll get through a lot more books. I realized I was wasting time with meaningless things on my computer, so I set about to change that. I started reading instead and not only am I able to read more books, but my writing has improved. (I won’t get into all the details of what your brain does when you read all sorts of bits of information here and there online, but let’s just say that it doesn’t help your writing or book reading.)

[4. Evaluate Books

Check your TBR stack. Do you really want to read all those books? Are there some you added because they were free and you didn’t really look at them? Are there some that just don’t look interesting to you? Cut them out. Toss them. Life is not long enough to read every single book. Or if you start a book and aren’t interested, it’s okay to not finish it. (I’m still working on that one since I like to finish books I start unless I find out right near the beginning that I’m not interested or won’t like it.)

[5. Listen to Audio Books

If you have a stack of dishes to wash or laundry to fold, or maybe you have a room to paint or a sewing project to do, put on an audio book and listen. But please, for the sake of your brain, don’t try to listen to audio books while you do school! It will make your brain have to rewire itself and you won’t be able to give your full attention to either your school or the book.

And those, my readers, are my tips for getting more reading done. If you are doing my Reading Challenge, perhaps they will help you get more books read so you can reach the end with 24 books off Mt. TBR.

Do you do a lot of reading? What is something you do to help you get more reading in? Of the tips I shared, which do you think is the hardest?

Good tips! I’m getting back into reading a lot and enjoying it. I like reading before bed, too. I read some of my story book, then maybe five minutes before going to bed, I’ll read some in my Bible to have a few verses in mind. I think taking some books off the reading list would be the hardest! 🙂 It’s hard to get rid of something without doing it!

By the way, I liked the story you posted last week on your friday’s blog. I tried to comment but it wouldn’t let me. (I always try to pray before posting a comment that I only post what God would have me to do, so maybe I wasn’t supposed to send that one.) And yes, I have re-written books after I finished! Well, I’m actually doing that now; I haven’t finished the re-writing. Praying for you as you write Don Wood!

It can be hard to take books off your TBR list unless you realize that you just can’t read all the books. 😀 I looked at reviews of books I wasn’t sure about and ended up getting rid of quite a few.

Thanks for trying to comment. 🙂
