When it comes to marketing my books, I’m no expert. In fact, I’d consider myself way down on the list of who to ask for advice about marketing your books. However, there is one thing I do that does help my books be read.
Kindle Unlimited
When I first started my publishing journey, I really didn’t know what Kindle Unlimited was. But I went ahead and enrolled my books in it anyway because I thought, why not?
Since that time I’ve discovered that it is probably the place I make the most money because I get paid for each page someone reads.
This means that if you get a free subscription to Kindle Unlimited, and you read my books, I still get paid even if you didn’t pay anything. Or if you pay only $.99 for 3 months of Kindle Unlimited and you read my books, I get paid. Or if I read someone else’s books on KU, they will get paid.
I’ve found that not only is it a good way to try books you might not be sure if you’ll like well enough to buy, but it is also a good way to support other indie authors. Even if you don’t like the book and only read a dozen pages, the author will get paid for that.
So, if you don’t have money to spend on books but want to help support your favorite indie authors, get those free trials, or those special 3 months for $.99 deals on Kindle Unlimited, and start reading the books by your favorite authors.
Have you ever ready books with Kindle Unlimited? Did you know the authors get paid by the page read? If you had a free trial of KU right now, what are some books or authors you’d want to read?

Kindle Unlimited is great, and I’ve discovered authors who I like that I probably wouldn’t read about unless we had KU.

Me too! I’m willing to try new authors if I have KU and don’t have to buy the book. π

I didn’t know any of this so thanks for sharing! I only read real books though, but I will definitely keep it in mind if I publish any of my books.
Love,
Ashley

You’re welcome. And I would rather read real books, but sometimes the only way I can try new authors or books is on kindle and I’d rather do it on KU if I’m unsure about the book. π

I didn’t know authors got paid for each page you read. How nice! Does that count for reading sample chapters or only downloading the whole book? I have not read books with KU, only samples. If I had a free trial, I would probably read some of your books and Isabella Alden. I want to read Jessie Wells by Isabella Alden and I haven’t found it anywhere else yet.
I just finished reading Home Fires of the Great War. Wow. Of course I liked the story, but what really caught my attention was ALL the work that went into it! You had to keep up with the writing style and life of Emma and Maria, the soldiers, all the neighbors and extended family, the Scottish speech, all the historical facts that the girls just randomly mentioned in their letters that you had to research, Ria and Lydia’s story…I could keep going. I so enjoyed the ending with Grace and Corporal! The book left me happy and feeling bittersweet as I spent five something years with the girls during the war and getting to experience the homecoming, etc., and then having to say goodbye when the book ended. π Are you still planning on writing a sequel? I can also now read the Ria and the Gang stories with more understanding of their aunts and uncles. π

We don’t get paid for samples. At least not that I know of. π
Aw, I’m so glad you liked it! I know how hard it is to say goodbye to those characters! I lived with them for 6 years as I researched and wrote that book. I was planning on writing another one that took place during the 2nd World War, but then I realized that I would have to have some of the “gang” die, and I couldn’t do it. But I do plan on publishing and hopefully writing more “Ria and the Gang” stories.
Chloe says
Aww, I don’t blame you for not writing the WWII one with that in mind about the gang! I look forward to more Ria and the Gang stories!

Yeah, I even had readers who don’t mind some of their own characters dying tell me that I was not allowed to write WWII and kill ANY of the gang. π

I didn’t realize that until I published my short story; now I’m glad I decided to enroll in KU!

I think a lot of people don’t realize that or never think about it. I know I never did.
CowgirlCari says
Aww, I don’t have KU. π
Sure wish I did

Maybe some day you can get a free month trial. π
