No, I’m not turning into some sort of crazy diet person who is going to promote this, that, and the other diet that “will change your life.” Nor am I turning this blog into some food blog. (I don’t like cooking except in my books.) You can relax and keep drinking that coffee (ugh!) and eating that chocolate.
What are you eating? What ideas and thoughts are you swallowing in your mind today?
Our minds have a tendency to believe what we tell it over and over. What are you telling yourself? You know, there are a LOT of people on earth. But with all the people, the texting, the phone calls, direct messaging, facetiming, and all the other ways to communicate, there is one person we tend to talk to the most. Any ideas?
Ourselves.
We talk to ourselves more than anyone. Now maybe you are among the odd ones who never find themselves talking to themselves aloud when no one else is around, but I doubt there is one person who can say they never think about things.
We think about
how we look,
how we responded to someone,
how we feel about something,
how we think others think about us,
how we should answer this other person,
how we acted,
how we need to change,
how we . . . you fill in the blank.
Maybe what we are saying is truth. But is it? You may be convinced that you are thinking the truth.
You are overweight, or too thin.
You are aren’t sensitive enough.
You can’t help feeling angry about something.
You know that others don’t like you for some reason.
You need to tell the other person some plain truth.
You are not enough.
You think you should change, but then again, this is who you are, so . . .
But do those things matter?
What are the most important things that you should be filling your mind with?
God’s truth.
You are loved beyond measure, no matter what.
You are a child of God.
You are to speak the truth in love.
You are chosen to share God’s love and forgiveness with others.
You are God’s workmanship.
You have been bought with a price.
You are never alone.
You have a Teacher, a Guide, a Light to your path, a Shepherd, a Father, a Shield, a Shelter.
You may be thinking you are alone and have no one who really cares. That’s a lie.
You may be telling yourself that you need to forgive yourself. That is a lie.
You may be convinced that you don’t measure up and are not enough. That is a lie.
Stop feeding yourself poison! Feed yourself truth!
You say you aren’t enough? Well, guess what? God is enough.
You say you are a failure? Guess what? God will never fail you.
You say no one loves or cares for you? Guess what? God loved you so much that He sent His Son to die for you!
You say you are the way you are because that’s how God made you and you can’t change. Guess what? God tells us to grow in love, wisdom, patience, grace, joy, peace, and so much more. There is always room to grow.
So, what are you eating? Are you swallowing falsehoods? Are you feeding yourself tiny lies? Lies come from books, movies, our own stories that we are writing, friends, and more. I’d like to challenge you to evaluate your thoughts and the things you tell yourself. Do they line up with Scripture? Are they pure, right, true, lovely, good, and honest?

Love this post! So good❤ Reminded me of John 17:17, “Sanctify them through thy truth, Thy word is truth.”
Thank you so much for writing this!

Yes. Let’s use God’s word not man’s to tell us the truth.
And you’re welcome.

You’re welcome! I need to remind myself of this too.

Glad for this! Too often I find myself saying some of these things to myself. Twice today I’ve been reminded of those things we are to be thinking on.

It is easy to slip into telling ourselves the lies the world constantly feeds us, so being reminded is good.

Something that has helped me to avoid dwelling on unhelpful thoughts – listening to audio books at work!

Oh, that’s a good idea, Chels.

I used to find that after an hour or two I would start obsessing about all kinds of negative things and feeding myself unhealthy thoughts. I couldn’t stop myself no matter now hard I tried. But since I’ve started listening to audio books I just don’t have the time to listen to unhealthy thoughts!

That’s wonderful!
Chelsea says
Unless, of course, the book is feeding me unhealthy thoughts. I did have to stop one book for that reason!

Yeah, that could be a problem. But at least you have many other choices of things to listen to.

I think we all need the reminder.

YES!! This is why I find it so important to take an internet break ever now and then and take the time to focus on reading, memorizing, and meditating on Scripture.
