Hello! Welcome to the Literary Lodge. I’m so glad you could come and join our party! Is it chilly outside? The wind was pretty brisk when I went out earlier. But if you get cold, there are plenty of blankets or you can visit around the bonfires. Would you like anything to drink? We have hot apple cider, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. I think there might be cookies and pies later. Probably apple pie, because we have bushels of apples this year. And if you want to look over any books, there are quite a few benches around that you can sit and rest on while you sort though the stacks you want to read.
Oh, great, you brought your book bags! You might need them with all the titles we’ll be giving you. I wonder how long it will take to fill them up with new books to read.
But please, come on in, find a seat and let’s get this party started!
As you know this party is all about our Five Fall Favorites. We’ve chosen two different genres for each day and are going to share our Top 5 books in each one. But to make this a little more fun, there are 5 Party Rooms. Each of these rooms are on a different blog, but don’t worry, I will provide you easy access to them.
Each room will feature a different “B” word: Blankets, Books, Bonfires, Benches, and Bushels. (Just because we like being alliterate here at the Literary Lodge.)
You can discover which room you are in by finding the posted picture somewhere in the blog post . They will look like the ones you see right here.
Pay attention to which room you are in, because the Books room will be doing a Door Prize giveaway to a random writer of a comment posted that day on their blog. (So be sure you leave a comment!)
Each day the rooms will be on different blogs, so keep visiting!
Also, in this Literary Lodge, um, I mean blog, we will be hosting the Grand Prize! There are dozens of ways to enter this giveaway, so be sure to take a look before you get completely lost in the lists of books we’ll be sharing.
All prizes will be announced here on this blog on Saturday, so be sure you come back.
So, let’s get started. After I share my Top 5 favorites in Mystery and Christian Fiction, I’ll give you the links to all the other Party Rooms and you can start exploring. But don’t forget to come back and enter the giveaway here!
Mystery
Most of these books are in series. Sorry, that just seems to be the case with mystery books. So, since I could only list one, I chose the first of each series.
- The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax (My mom introduced me to this sweet, older lady a few years ago. I couldn’t put the book down! Talk about reading on the edge of your seat! Just be careful, a few of the characters don’t watch their language all that well. Either read an edited version, or be prepared to white-out some things. This is the first in several exciting stories about the daring and darling Mrs. Pollifax.)
- Β Scout (If you like mysteries and dogs, you’ll like this one. Oh, and it has horses in it too! Much to my dismay, there are no other books about Scout and Jeff.)
- The Hardy Boys (I have the first one down here, but I’ve enjoyed all the ones I’ve read, at least, if they are republished from the original by Applewood Press. The “blue” versions are so chopped, edited and altered, that some of them hardly resemble the original story at all! If you have read the altered ones, I challenge you to go read one of the original stories and see what they changed!)
- Bob & Arty (Daring missionary pilots, exciting mysteries, and a loving family make this series very enjoyable! There are five books in this series.)
- The Scarlet Pimpernel (Who is the one who is called “The Scarlet Pimpernel”? The one who rescues men, women and children from the French Revolution and right under the noses of their fierce enemy? I’ve enjoyed listening to the audio of this because the reader does so much better at pronouncing French names than I ever could!)
Christian Fiction
This was so hard to decide my favorites! There are so many that I could have chosen, so many I love to read over and over. This is probably the biggest genre I read. But I tried to give you some variety.
- Little Fishers and Their Nets (This story is by my favorite author and shows just how much influence children can have when they are walking with Jesus Christ. It is set in the 1800’s.)
- The Deepening Stream (I think this might be my favorite book by this author. When a small time reporter gets stranded in an isolated town just before a huge winter storm hits, he has a choice to make. But is this really God’s leading?)
- The Browns at Mt. Hermon (The most humorous book Isabella Alden wrote. The first time I read it I started laughing. But it was also challenging. You’ll just have to read about all the Browns. And I really want to go visit Mt. Hermon!)
- Summer with the Moodys (Even if this series was written for young children, Sarah Maxwell did such a wonderful job of telling a simple story with humor, good principals and godly examples, that I’ve enjoyed every one of her books.)
- Treasures of the Snow (If you haven’t read this story, you should. A story about forgiveness and love. Of doing hard things to make a wrong right. I love it!)
Now that you’ve had a glimpse of my Top 5 books for Mystery & Christian Fiction, it’s time you headed over to the Party Rooms and see what they have chosen. Leaving comments on all the blogs, though not required, is strongly encouraged. (Think of entries for the Grand Prize.) Mention one of your favorite books, or your Top 5, ask a question, just do something to let your hostess know you came by. Just don’t forget to look for the Books Room if you want to enter for the door prize! (Now just click on any of the graphics below and they will take you to a Party Room.)
Grand Prize
This giveaway is open to both US readers and International readers. The prizes will be different, however. Sorry. We just can’t afford to ship internationally.
A US winner will get a “bright ideas” jar full of story prompts, plus four paperback books.
If we have an International winner instead, they will receive a $20.00 Amazon gift card and three kindle books.
And that’s all for today, folks! I hope you enjoyed it and will be back for more tomorrow! Remember, some of those entries for the Grand Prize can be done every day! And if you thought it was fun, invite a friend or two.

I have a question: On some of the “Follow” giveaway entries, it says to follow it by email. I’d rather use my WordPress account; is that okay?? Thanks!
(Oh, and I’m sorry that I keep commenting; I just keep thinking of something else. xD)
readanotherpage says
Sure, you can use your WordPress account. That’s not a problem. π
And comment all you want. I don’t mind. I love comments. π
readanotherpage says
I love “The Old River Road”! I just couldn’t figure out where to put it and then it got forgotten as it’s on my kindle instead of my bookshelf. Glad you mentioned it. π

Hey, I entered just the free entry by accident before I really looked this over, could you please withdraw my entries? I’m super sorry to cause all this trouble, but I can’t enter this.
Thank you, and again, I apoligize.
-Mikayla-
readanotherpage says
Hi Mikayla! Sure, I can delete your entry, but if you are thinking you can’t enter this because your sister’s book is in the Grand Prize, that doesn’t matter. We allow siblings to enter. π So, let me know for sure if you want me to delete your entry.
I hope you enjoy all the books and the rest of this party!
Mikayla H says
Thanks, but I’d rather you just delete the entry! I’ll enjoy the rest of the party enough. =) Thank you so much!

No problem. π I did it. π
Livi Jane says
Oh, The Hardy Boys. Quite possibly my first fictional character crushes. lol
When I was little, basically all I read was mystery-related fiction. I love love loved it!
Five Fall Favorites looks like it’s going to be a whole lot of fun! π

Amanda says
Fun list!! π Hmm… I don’t think I’ve read the original Hardy Boys, as my aunt has the 40-some-odd blue-backs. Now I’m interested to see if I can get my hands on some originals! π
“The Browns at Mt. Hermon” was one of my favorite of Alden’s books too! π
readanotherpage says
Yes, see if you can find an original Hardy Boys! I think the 3rd book in the series is the most changed. I felt like I was reading a completely new adventure. π
Oh, you like “The Browns at Mt. Hermon” too? How fun!
Liberty Bluebelle says
Hello! I agree–Little Fishers and Their Nets is a wonderful little story. I’ll have to read The Brown’s at Mount Hermon. Another great book by Patricia St John is Twice Freed, a story about Onesimus, the slave mentioned in the book of Philemon. That’s my favorite by that author. And my all time favorite book at this time is The Hoosier Schoolmaster, by Edward Eggleston. Old Fashioned storytelling at some of its finest! Now I’ve got to see if I can get a Bob and Arty book. =) Oh, and one of my favorite books growing up was Scout! I think I need to pull it out again too. =)
readanotherpage says
Another Pansy reader! π Yes, you should read “The Browns at Mt. Hermon.”
I’m sure I’ve probably read “Twice Freed” but it’s been years.
I’ll have to check out “The Hoosier Schoolmaster.” Thanks for recommending it.
Oh, yes, Bob and Arty. π If you can’t find them anywhere else, I know that LightOfFaith.com carries them. π
Thanks for coming by and I hope you enjoy the rest of the party!

Abigail P. says
One book I really love (one of many!) is So Little Time by Al and Joanna Lacy. π
Abigail P. says
Also I have another question. Sorry. π I was making some entries for the grand prize, and I was wondering what it meant to add books to my “to-read” list. Is this a physical list or on a website somewhere, or is it just my mental list of books I want to read? Thanks!
readanotherpage says
Hi Abigail! The “to-read” list can be any list you want. You can add them to your to read list on Goodreads if you are on there. You can jot them down on a piece of paper, or you can make a mental note of them. π
Oh, and thanks for the books recommendation. I don’t think I’ve heard of it. I’ll have to check it out. π
Faith Potts says
