Hello, there! Isn’t it a glorious day to spend at the Literary Lodge?
With that sun shining I don’t think it’ll be long before we won’t want the blankets some of us have grabbed. But the bonfire will still be nice for this evening when it cools down again. The fog over the lake will disappear soon, and I imagine there will be several boats out on the waters. It’s going to be lovely if you want to ride one of the bikes. I went out for a spin earlier and stopped to brush the leaves off the benches for you, but with the autumn breeze, there are probably new leaves now. Oh, well. The sunshine will make it nice for picking bushels of apples from the orchard. And yes, you may take some apples with you to the barn if you want a snack while you read or sort through your pile of books. Oh, you were thinking about a hike? Sure thing! Here’s some backpacks you can use to take along a book or two and some lunch. Have a lovely day! And don’t forget to enter the giveaway while you’re here.
As before, the buttons to the other rooms are down below, as is the giveaway. You don’t want to miss any of the fun planned for today! Remember that the Books room is offering a FREE kindle book today only!
Humor
This is NOT a genre I usually read. I just don’t care for most books of this nature. However, I was able to come up with 5 that I do like, though I had to go the kids shelf for some. π
The Case of the Missing Hero by Perry Elisabeth Kirkpatrick
Oh, my! This book is great! I don’t like cats, and I don’t like books that have animals acting like humans, but this book and the entire Kitten series is an exception. I laughed out loud when reading the story of how a cat used an iPhone and rescues a dog! I lent this book to a young girl who doesn’t like to read. She loved it so much she read it aloud to her younger sister. That should tell you something about the writing.
Bennett Cerf’s Book of Laughs by Bennett Cerf
I grew up with this book. (So did my mom for that matter.) There’s just something about these jokes/stories that make me chuckle. I’d tell one to you, but it’s a bit too long to put here if you can’t see the pictures.
Church is Stranger than Fiction by Mary Chambers
I know the author/illustrator personally. Reading this book and her other book You Know You’re a Mother When will leave you with a strange feeling that perhaps the comic is a little closer to the truth than you want to admit. But they are funny. The author also uses names of people I grew up with including my brother. π
Amelia BedeliaΒ by Peggy Parish
Do I need to say anything about this series? Amelia Bedelia is the classic example of a literal person. Tell her to dust the furniture, and she puts dust on them. When asked to dress a chicken, she puts clothes on it. When I read these books to my nieces and nephews it’s almost more funny to watch them since some are too young to understand what she’s doing, only that she’s not doing what she should be.
Mr. Frumble’s Worst Day Ever by Richard Scarry
I don’t know how many times I’ve had to read this book to my 4, now 5-year-old nephew. He LOVES it! I think I enjoy it because he does. He always points out the funny things Mr. Frumble does and we laugh over them together. This book is also published in England so there are English words and phrases that I’ve had to explain.
Here are the Party Room/Blogs! Each one will open in a new tab so you won’t get lost. Have fun!

Here’s my review of the day: βGeorge & the Dragonvineβ by Amanda Kastner.
5 stars. A non-magical little story, the moral of which is to do your job and to take responsibility for your actions. The illustratations are very cute. π
A favorite humorous quote:
The dragon was very inconvenient. He sat on the potato plants. . . and he knocked over the bean poles. . . and he ate the lettuce!

I absolutely love the Amelia Bedelia books! So much so that I believe I named my doll after her, and then I named my doll’s bunny Bedelia. π

I love a good book with some humor in it! I think I may have read some Amelia Bedelia books when I was younger! π

I like some humor, but I’m not a slap-stick comedy person. π

For the giveaway, It says I can review a book in the comments, so this is my review. Since today is the humor day, the book I will review is one of the funniest books I have read:
The Day The School Blew Up, by Seth J. Pierce, is written for teens but can be thoroughly enjoyed by all ages! I laughed out loud so hard when reading this book while traveling, that I got multiple looks from those in the RV with me! It’s a short read, only 191 pages, but it is worth every single minute of reading it! The Characters are well written and this story is not only hilarious, it has very good biblical lessons sprinkled throughout. The second book, Camporee of Doom is just as good. And I would definitely give both of these books 5 stars!!!

Isn’t it fun when someone reminds you of a book you used to read and enjoy? π I have fond memories of it from when I was young too.

My Book review of the day:
If you like humor AND an awesome story, you HAVE to read Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians.
What if everything we knew was wrong? All the history books, all the maps, EVERYTHING, wrong? What if the Librarians weren’t actually our peaceful, fellow book-loving, people? What if Writers weren’t actually your friends? But instead were the greatest and most heartless villians around?
Alcatraz Smedry is your normal, everyday, extremely regular foster kid. Except for the fact that EVERYTHING HE TOUCHES BREAKS. Literally. Throw in the appearance of his seemingly crazy and unknown until that moment, grandfather. And the fact that everything he’d grown up being taught is a lie…. And you get a sarcastic filled, adventure that just might be fatal. . . .
Such a great book! The puns and twists are priceless! If you like humor, if you like snark, if you love sarcasm, if you like stuff about writers and conspiracies, ya can’t live without reading this book! (and the rest of the series for that matter).
