I’m so glad you’ve returned to the party!
Come inside! It’s gotten colder. That breeze really has a bite to it this morning. You may want to stay close to the bonfire today, or take a blanket along with you if you plan to sit in a boat and read. Riding a bike should help you get warm though if you want to venture out. Sure, hiking is also a great way to get warm. Just load some great reads into a backpack and get started. You can stop and rest on one of the benches. They are scattered all over the grounds, so no matter which trail you take I’m sure you’ll find at least one. And the barn has a loft filled with fresh hay, you could find a cozy spot up there to enjoy a stack of books. Do any of you need to borrow a bushel basket to put their collection of new things to read in? Here are a few empty ones. Have fun today exploring the acres around the Literary Lodge! We have cookies in the kitchen and hot drinks if you want any. And apples. We have plenty of apples this year.
If you haven’t been here before, the giveaway is down below, and so are the buttons to the other party rooms. Be sure to visit them all as there are some great books being recommended, and one of them is offering a FREE kindle book!
Just a reminder, if we reach 75 people entered into the giveaway, we’ll add a 2nd place winner, so be sure to invite your friends!
Historical Non-Fiction
I know some people don’t like non-fiction books, but I find them interesting. Especially if they are historical non-fiction. I want to know what it was really like, and what really happened, and sometimes fictional stories can’t tell that. Some of these may read like a fiction book, but they aren’t fiction.
Blizzard! by Jim Murphy
If you are ready to feel cold, read this book. If you want to read stories about incredible natural events, this book is for you. Filled with stories and even some photographs of real people who survived, or didn’t survive the surprise blizzard of 1888 that blasted New England, this book was a fascinating read.
Lillian Trasher: The Greatest Wonder in Egypt by Janet and Geoff Benge
Every book by Janet & Geoff Benge has been well done! The stories of missionaries, inventors, and statesmen come alive. In this book, Lillian Trasher opens up an orphanage in Egypt and her story is inspiring.
Scotty Allan by Shannon Garst
Perhaps you’ve heard to the great dog sled races up in Alaska, but did you know that dog sleds were used during the First World War? They were, and Scotty Allan helped train them. This is a book I read when I was doing research for my book Home Fires, and I found it quite interesting.
Theย Sound of Music Family Scrapbook by Fred Bronson
If you enjoy this movie, you’d enjoy this scrapbook. It is filled with stories, pictures, and memories of the children and others who became for all the world “the von Trapp Family.” There are stories from the making of the film, as well as stories from before and afterwards. I loved seeing how the children continued to be friends and family even after the film was finished. But be warned, you’ll want to watch the movie after you read it.
A Boy’s War by David Michell
This reads just like a fictional story, only it’s real. Written in first person by the author, this story tells about what life in a Japanese internment camp in China was like for some of the children who had been away in school and were without their parents. Not only that, but the author was in the same camp as Eric Liddell.
Are you ready to visit all the other Party Roomsโer, blogs? Have fun and don’t forget to leave comments, add books to your TBR list and enter the giveaway! Oh, and these will open in a new tab, so don’t worry, you won’t get lost in the acres of land around the Literary Lodge. ๐
