Welcome back for our final day at the Literary Lodge! It’s hard to believe that our time here is almost over.
I hope you have had a wonderful week exploring the acres around the Literary Lodge. The bonfires have burned late into the night, and there has been such delightful talks with old friends. But today is our last day. If you want to help clean up that would great! The boats all need checked to make sure no one left any books in them. If you find any, please bring them to the lodge and hopefully someone will claim them. The bikes and benches can be taken out to the barns for the winter. All blankets will need shaken and folded before we store them in the closet here at the lodge. Oh, and we found three bushels of books sitting in the front room. Does anyone claim them? We’re also missing a couple backpacks. Those could be anywhere. If you happen to find an empty one in the woods or the orchard, would you please bring it to the lodge? Thanks.
And thank you all for coming! I hope you had as delightful a time as we did in hosting it! A special thanks to Kate who co-hosted this event with me and also put together the delightful Grand Prize basket. *applause please* Special thanks goes to Lisa Harris who kindly donated the mug for the basket! (Make sure you check out her Etsy shop.) And thank you to the rest of our Five Fall Favorites team: Sarah, Erika, Kaitlyn, Mikayla, Anna, Faith, Victoria, and Kaylee. We couldn’t have done it without you all! And a huge thanks to you, the participants who make this party worthwhile. Your enthusiasm and excitement over this annual event is a great motivation to continue it. 😀
The winners will be announced down at the bottom of the post where the Grand Prize is listed. If the winners are not listed yet, make sure you come back. And don’t forget to check out the final posts from each of our bloggers. All of them are posting today! Be sure to leave them a comment and tell them how much you enjoyed the party. And yes, one of them is the Books room and has a free kindle book for you!
Oh, two more things. First, here’s a pdf download of all the Top 5 books shared this year. If you are like me, you have found books you want to read, but won’t be able to remember them all next week, nor will you have time to go back and find all these posts again next month.
The second thing is that there are some books that are $.99, or Free today. To find these books, click on the images on the left. These are all books by current participants of the Five Fall Favorites party, or former participants.
Now enjoy the rest of the day and your stay at the Literary Lodge.
Top 5 for 2018
I’ll admit right now–this was hard. I’ve read so many books this year that narrowing my favorites to just 5 felt almost impossible. Not only did I have too many to choose from, but I couldn’t remember which books I’d read this year! Thankfully I could go check on Goodreads. But here they are. My Top 5. At least right now. I still have 3 more months to read. *rubs hands gleefully*
The Red Signal by Grace Livingston Hill
I haven’t read very many books by this author, but I kept seeing wonderful reviews about this book, so I got it. It was delightful! There was excitement, suspense, and a bit of sweet romance. I enjoyed it so much that I told my Mom, and she purchased a paper copy so she could enjoy it too.
The Tangled Skein by Alta Halverson Seymour
I wasn’t expecting such excitement when I picked this book up because it takes place after WWII is over, but I could hardly put the book down. I don’t think there has been a book that I have read by Alta Seymour that I haven’t liked. And this takes place in Norway.
Miss Dee Dunmore Bryant by Isabella Alden (Pansy)
I did it again. I managed to slip in another book by my favorite author. Yes, I have read this book several times before, but each time I’m reminded anew of how sweet and wholesome without being dull and preachy these books are. Daisy is just so sweet. And I want a brother like Ben. (And there’s a sequel to it called Twenty-Minutes Late.)
Blue Ribbon Winner by Nancy Hartwell
I was wanting a good story to read when I picked this one up. It was just what I wanted. A Hungarian refugee girl comes to live with an American family in New England and her way of looking at things is refreshing. I wanted to meet Illi for real.
Looking for Home by Arleta Richardson
This is the first in a four book series. I had no idea that the author of the Grandma’s Attic series had written another series. This story (and the rest of the series) aren’t all happiness and roses, but it never had me growing frustrated with the characters. And, to make things even better, the series is based on a real person’s life who was sent on an Orphan Train and found a family.
Go visit each party room for the last time. Even though the giveaway is over, I know they would love to hear what you thought of their posts. And don’t forget to search for the Books room!

This has been so much fun, and I’ve found so many books to add to my TBR list as well as new bloggers to follow! I especially enjoyed the introductions where bloggers talked about their ‘room’, making the post into a story of itself. Thank you for putting together this blog hop. Rebekah, and congrats to the winners!!

OK, so when I did my list I 100% forgot it was 5 books, not 10. But I’ll keep it 10 because it’s a good list. xP So. My 10 Top Favourite Books of the Year. o.O This will be hard. Partly remembering and partly choosing.
1. “Emma” by Jane Austen. Hands down the best.
2. “Unbroken” by Rebekah A. Morris. So good.
3. “Home Fires of the Great War” by Rebekah A. Morris. ❤
4. (we’re already getting near the end… :[]) “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Heartbreakingly beautiful.
5. (halfway! *gulp*) “Rose in Bloom Series” by Louisa May Alcott. (*smirks at how I managed to sneak in two books*)
6. “What Katy Did Next” OR “Clover” by Susan Coolidge. I can’t remember if I read them both this year or if I just read ”Clover”, but they’re both wonderful. (*look how I managed to slip in two books again mwahaha*).
7. “Wilderness Ways” by William J. Long. I love all his works so far but this is the only one I’ve read this year. (Hoarding the others xD).
8. “Jack & Jill” by Louisa May Alcott. ❤
9. (*has a hard time figuring out which books are special enough to fit in the last two slots*) “Dictionary of Troublesome Words” by Bryson. Yeah, I love words and I love to laugh. (Also not finished).
10. (*drumrolllll* *racks brains trying to think of a special book*) “Around the World in Eighty Days.” So I just read the first two chapters so far. But they were A-MAZ-ING. So the rest of the book ought to be as good, right??

Lovely list! 🙂 I’m honored to have made it in your top 5 twice! Such fun books. And yes, “Around the World in Eighty Days” is great! 🙂 I love listening to it on audio. Just be prepared for some crazy things and intense moments, as well as some laughable ones. 🙂
Thanks for sharing this list!
