Are you a writer? Are you a published author? Are you someone who just loves to write? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, then this is for you.
Make sure you take time to read. You may be thinking that you want to write, not read, but if you want to be a good writer, one who writes stories worth reading, ones that touch the heart, then you must read. This is not just an idea, it’s an important part of being an author or writer.
As a writing teacher, I’ve seen first hand how books influence your writing ability. My students who loved to read, who devoured books and were always looking for something new to read, were some of my best writing students (even if they hated writing). On the other hand, those who really didn’t care much for reading, only read when they had to and avoided new books, had a harder time expressing themselves on a page.
Books will influence you.
The writing styles will influence you.
Phrases, sentences and structure of stories will influence you.
Think about your own writing style, and then think about some of your favorite books. It may be hard at first to find a connection, but it will be there.
My favorite author wrote in a certain way, her books are full of richness and meaning as well as lovely descriptions, meaningful conversations, real life, spiritual truths and wonderful story lines. When I look at her style of writing with my own, I can see major differences, but I can also see the influence of her books on my stories.
So, keep reading. Make time to read. Read good books, stories that are well written. And, just so you know I really mean this . . .
If you would like to read my short Christmas story “At the Christmas Lodge” for free, send me a note with your e-mail address and I’ll send you a free e-copy of it. Just make sure you read it. 🙂
Do you take the time to read? What books have influenced your writing?

My favorite author is Isabella Alden "Pansy." You know, I could do an entire post about her. Hmmm . . .

I LOVE to write and read. 🙂 I've found that the more I read, the more I want to write. Reading inspires me. I have been noticing lately how reading different things by different authors, affects my writing in various ways.
Being familiar with Bible passages also helps me SO much. When I'm writing a scene and need a good verse, I can usually think of one. I don't have to go digging through Dad's 2" thick concordance for something pertaining to what I'm writing. I may not know the verse exactly, word-for-word, but I'll know enough to look it up so I don't misquote it. 🙂
Thanks for posting, Miss Morris! I have a few more online things to do, but then I'm off to read! 😉

Thanks for coming by Faith! Glad to hear you love to both read and write. Just remember to be careful of what you read because it does influence and affect your writing.
Enjoy your book!
