You have stacks of books to read. Library books. TBR books that never seem to go away. There are beta books, ARC copies to read and review, and yet . . . Life is busy! So busy! How do you find time to read too?
Today I’d like to share some tips about finding time to read when life is busy.
- You don’t find the time. You make it. If you are expecting to find random free time to read, stop. You’ll have to make the time.
- Have a book with you so you can read when you have 10 minutes here or there instead of scrolling through social media or getting on your phone.
- Set aside time (20 minutes, 30 minutes, even 45 minutes) before you go to sleep to read. It’s better for your sleep if you can read a real book at that time.
- If you are washing dishes or working in the garden, listen to audio books. (Please do NOT listen to audio books if you are taking a walk by yourself. You will not be fully aware of your surroundings and that is the kind of person the bad buys are looking for.)
- Pick a day where you rest and spend at least an hour reading. (I usually read most of Sunday afternoons.) Taking deliberate time to stop and relax and read is good.
- Take a book with you if you are going to appointments and might have to wait. You never know when you’ll have to wait for someone, so you might as well read, right?
- If you are going on a trip, listen to an audio book. Just be attentive if you are driving. No accidents please.
And those are my tips for getting in more reading when you life is busy. Of course there is busy and busy and sometimes you can’t do all of the things I mentioned, but hopefully these tips will give you some ideas of how to add a little more reading in your life in spite of how busy you are.
Do you try to find time to read or do you make time? What are some ways you squeeze in reading when life is busy? Or do you just set reading aside? I’d love to know.

Great ideas! I’m trying to read more before bed (namely the books I check out from the library lol.)

That’s great, Lil! And I’m sure the library books are happy. 😉
