I needed something to post today. Life has been busy and my blog post creativity seemed to have either gone on strike, or be sleeping. I’m still not sure which. So, when Kate did this fun tag, I thought I’d grab it and do it too. Here’s how this tag works. There are multiple questions and I have to tell you if I approve of (IN) or don’t like (OUT) the bookish things. Ready?
IN or OUT
1. Reading the Last Page First
IN-n-OUT I don’t read the last page first usually, but sometimes I will jump ahead in a book just to make sure things turn out okay. But that’s usually only if a book is really tense and I can’t finish it in one sitting.
2. Enemies to Lovers
OUT. I can’t say that I’ve read many of these books, but I don’t find them interesting.
3. Dream Sequences
OUT. That’s just strange. And a little creepy.
4. Love Triangles
OUT. They just seem a little overused, a little ridiculous, and a little not fun. π
5. Cracked Spines
Uhhhhhh, well, since cracking the spines isn’t good for the books, I’d say OUT, but since I’ll read and enjoy books even if they do have a cracked spine, then IN.
6. Back To My Small Town
IN. I like stories about small towns and slowing down and getting priorities straight.
7. Monsters Are Regular People
OUT. I don’t like monsters.
8. No Paragraph Breaks
Say what? How do you even have a story with no paragraph breaks? OUT!!
9. Multi-Generational Sagas
OUT-ish. I suppose it depends on if it’s all in one book jumping from one generation to another and back and forth and such. If that’s the case, no thanks. If it’s a book series that follows a family through different generations, sure.
10. Re-reading
IN! Are you kidding? Why would I want shelves full of books if I didn’t like re-reading?
11. Artificial Intelligence
OUT. *speaks in robotic tones* Why do I want to read about artificial intelligence? That is not very intelligent because it had to be planned by a real person.
12. Drop Caps
IN-n-OUT. I’m on the fence with this one. As long as they aren’t too large, I don’t mind them. They aren’t my favorite, but they aren’t bad either.
13. Happy Endings
IN! Give me a book without a happy ending and I will leave a bad review, won’t recommend the book, will not read it again, and well, you get the picture.
14. Plot Points That Only Converge At The End
IN. As long as things do get resolved and tied up, I don’t mind them.
15. Detailed Magic Systems
OUT. I don’t read books with magic, so detailed or not is out for me.
16. Classic Fantasy Races
OUT. I don’t like made up fantasy creatures. They give me the creeps.
17. Unreliable Narrators
OUT. *thinks* I don’t know that I’ve ever read a book with an unreliable narrator. I can’t even figure out what that would be like.
18. Evil Protagonists
OUT. Um, no. I’m not reading a book about a person I can’t cheer on and like.
19. The Chosen One
OUT. I had to go look this up because I had no idea what they were talking about. It has to do with fantasy stories. And since I don’t read or enjoy that sort of thing, I can’t say that I like it.
20. When The Protagonist Dies
OUT. This is a for sure way to lower a rating and ensure that I don’t reread the book again. (Exceptions are biographies.)
21. Really Long Chapters
OUT. I made one of my books have chapters that were 4k words long and that was almost too long for me.
22. French Flaps
IN. (This is when the cover of a paperback has a folded-over flap similar to a dust jacket, I believe.) Sure. As long as the book is not in French, I’m good. π
23. Deckled Edges (basically untrimmed pages)
IN. Sure. I’m fine with them.
24. Signed Copies By The Author
IN. Of course. Why wouldn’t I like signed author copies?
25. Dog-Earing Pages
OUT. You don’t bend the corners of your pages! Just no! If I get a book that has dog-eared pages, the first thing I do is straighten them.
26. Chapter Titles Instead Of Numbers
IN-or-OUT. I’ll be honest. I hardly ever pay attention to whether a book has chapter titles or numbers. I just read the story.
And there you are. Feel free to grab this tag and use it if a.) you need a quick post, or b.) you think it looks fun, or c.) you have wanted a tag to do, or d.) some other reason.
Are there any of these tropes that are pet peeves of yours? Are there any book things not shared in this tag that you have very strong feelings about? Let me know.

Oh, fun! I’ll check it out!

Ooo, fun! Lol, my sister wholly agrees with not dog-earing pages. I don’t like it either (though I’ll do it with notebooks, or the old English/grammar book I used for school once, just for quick reference).

Notebooks are different, and I don’t really mind dog-earing them if needed. Though I can’t think of the last time I did it. π

*wonders what Rebekah would say if I admitted I’ve written a story with an Artificial Intelligence* π€
readanotherpage says
*gasps* No! Tell me it isn’t so! π But since YOU wrote it, it’s not really artificial intelligence because YOU actually created it. π Wait. Does that make it Unofficially Artificial Intelligence? *is now completely confused*

This post had me both laughing and agreeing! Dog ears definitely belong on dogs and not in book pages. π

Happy to provide some laughter. π
