Once upon a time, a long time ago, when I was a pretty new author, I published my 4th book.
Yes, that was a long time ago. Way back in March of 2013 to be exact. At that time I didn’t know how to design covers. My first book cover was designed and published by Xulon Publishing. (I’m not a fan of that cover.) My second book cover was a painting I had someone do for me, and then another friend and her brother put the cover together. My third book cover had a drawing by a very talented artist, and my best friend helped me added the title. But my fourth book . . .
Well, I wasn’t sure what to do with it. I hadn’t learned all the things I know now, so I decided to go the easy route. I used a cover template from CreateSpace to create my cover for
The Lower Lights and Other Stories

I wasn’t a huge fan of it, but hey, it worked and really wasn’t that bad. Or was it? Go ahead and say it. I don’t like it either.
After I started designing my own covers, I knew I wanted to change the cover of The Lower Lights, but I just never did. I was too busy. But because I was too busy, I also never got it added to my website. Why? Because I didn’t have the front cover image. Since I had designed it from a template online, I didn’t have the cover to turn into a 3D image. So I kept thinking I’d change the cover.
Time passed.
Another year, or two, slipped by.
Near the beginning of this year, I was redoing my “bookshelf” page, and really wanted to add this book to the list. I realized that I could just download the front cover from Amazon. But no sooner had I done that (and mentioned on my Friday blog about wanting a new look), then someone offered to try their hand at a new cover. I sent the image of the trolley over. Then I realized that I needed to do a little editing on the image. So I did, and then played around a bit. Next thing I know, I had a cover.
And so, without any further boring introduction, here it is:
The Lower Lights and Other Stories
