Dear Readers,
Here I am, back at the King’s Daughters’ Writing Camp. The weather here has been nice. More spring like than winter, which I’m really enjoying. The lake is still too cold to go swimming, but maybe later in the month some brave souls will venture out into the cold waters. It’s a spring fed lake so the waters stay cold much longer.
My tent has 16 campers plus me in it. Camp has added two new tents this time so some of my usual campers have moved over to the tent nearby. That’s okay. We still see each other on the writing trail or path, or over at the campfire or in the lakehouse lodge. We’ve had a few small pillow fights in the tent, and quite a bit of chatting and writing. And of course TT wouldn’t be the same without us trying to reach some crazy goal, or do some crazy challenge.
One of my goals was to finish writing my new Homewood story. I got that done and am working on Kate & Kylie. I’d love to get that story done, but we’ll see what happens. Last week I was able set a new record for how many words I could write in a day. Way back in April of 2019, I managed to write 3,520 words. My new record is 4,123 words in a day! That was exciting!
The girls in my tent are all working hard to reach their goals, and I think we can reach our tent goal this camp just like we have the last few camps.
Oh, a game got started here and I think I’m going to share it with you all and ask you to play it too. I’ll even share my top answers.
Here are the rules:
I will give you 5 words. You are to take them and use them in 1-4 sentences. All 5 words must be used. Put your sentence in the comments below and I’ll pick my top ones to share next week.
Ready?
And your words are . . .
Favored
Ladybug
Coral
Sprint
Tie-dye
And go!
Anyway, life here at camp is going well. It’s fun to get to see old friends and make new ones. Most of the girls in my tent have been there before, but we do have a few new ones, so that’s nice. It can be hard to really get to know someone if they aren’t in your tent. Unless of course you create a little tree-house or cabin in the woods for just a few of you and go chat.
But I should go. I think the mess hall is calling, and so are my stories. Have fun using those words! I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Hopefully you’ll come back next week. Bye!

Sprinting down the track in her favored tie-dye t-shirt, Coral stopped short when a ladybug flew smack-dab into her mouth.

“Greetings, O favored ladybug! The Lord is with you! I am Coral and I bring a message that you are destined to win the giveaway for your favorite tie-dye shirt. Sprint with all you might to claim it!”

Fun game idea! I’ve enjoyed reading your recent posts, and the update on your story blog. Here’s what I came up with for the game:
“Arriving at her favored beach, Susie was so eager to see the coral reefs, she chose to sprint to the ocean. She left behind her tie-dye flip flops with her younger sister, who was busy singing a song about a ladybug and playing in the warm sand.”

Very nice, Chloe. ๐

Love this one!

Celia Coral wrinkled her nose at the meatloaf. “Mom, why did you make it tie-dye? Green, pink, and blue meatloaf looks… looks…” Mom wiped her favored apron with a smile. “Sorry, ladybug, it’s your brother’s birthday and he wanted tie-dye.” “I must sprint,” Celia turned away from the meatloaf, “to go order some pizza.”

My dog, Coral, raced away with my little sisterโs tie-dyed ladybug, and such a fuss Iโve never heard before! I was forced to sprint after the pup and retrieve the toy, proudly handing the now slightly drool-flavored lady bug to my sister, who hugged it tightly and glared at Coral.

Fun! ๐ But did you use Favored?
Elisabeth J. says
Nope. Looks like I used “flavored” instead. Whoops!
Here’s the completed version:
My dog, Coral, raced away with my little sisterโs tie-dyed ladybug, and such a fuss Iโve never heard before! I was forced to sprint after the pup and retrieve the favored toy, proudly handing the drool-covered ladybug to my sister, who hugged it tightly and glared at Coral.

Ooo, fun idea! Okay, here it goes:
Once upon a time, there was a ladybug named Coral Ann, who was highly favored by the king. One day, she went missing, and the worried king watched his guards sprint through the field looking for her. Amidst the colorful swirl of wildflowers (which appeared in a tie-dye sort of pattern), they found her having lunch underneath a leaf. Relieved, the king threw a giant party to celebrate the return of his lost friend.
Lol, that was fun! May I try this idea out on my blog sometime, Rebekah?

Well done! ๐
Of course! Try it out by all means!
Lydia Coral W says
Lydia sat down at her desk and flicked a ladybug off her tie-dye dress. Opening her computer and going onto her online writer’s group, she joined a writing sprint and then spent a long time trying to find a name for her character. She definitely favoured Coral, but maybe she was a bit biased.
Inspired by a true story…
;P

I got my parents in on this. ๐
My mom – “The coral ladybug sprinted across my favored tie-dye shirt as it hung on the clothesline.”
My dad – “These are the five words I missed in the spelling bee: coral, sprint, ladybug, tie-dye, favored”.
He’s not sure that will count, but it’s what he said as soon as I told him about the game! ๐

Those are great! Tell your dad his made me laugh. ๐
Sophia E. Davis says
“You are a disgrace to this line of work!” Coral’s uncle, the zookeeper at the zoo that she’d been helping out with for the summer, teased. “Of all the animals we’ve had shipped in from the other side of the world, the one you said you favored was the ladybug?”
Coral just smirked, then noticed that her crazy older cousin, wearing his typical tie-dye, was coming at a full sprint towards her. It was definitely a good time to get out of here and go home.
