Dear Readers,
Here I am at KDWC again. It’s been a good month so far. This is the largest camp we’ve ever had and I have 16 girls in my tent this time. That makes for some fun pillow fights, and some great conversations. One of my campers is due with her first baby soon and all the girls are eagerly waiting for news about it. In Tentalizing Tales we have girls from South Africa, Estonia, Canada, and the US. I think that’s all the countries.
Here at camp we have lots of opportunities to get to know new girls, reconnect with old friends, and share views and ideas. It’s rather funny because you’d think we held our camp down in Mexico or something because of how quiet it gets here in the early afternoon. Maybe siesta time isn’t just in Mexico.
But all this quiet time doesn’t seem to have affected the girls in my tent in their writing. They are attempting to set a new tent record of being the first group in the history of KDWC to reach 100% on the combined goal for this tent. Four Five of us in Tentalizing Tales have already reached our goal and are continuing to write and add to our total to help make up for the girls who are struggling or just haven’t been able to write at all.
I love watching them come together like this and encourage each other, challenge each other, and cheer each other on! I think I have a pretty special tent. π
My writing has been going really well. I’ve been working not on Lawrence & Lenexa like I had planned, but on the next Woodbreak book. I’m having so much fun getting back to familiar places and seeing old friends again. This is a different kind of story in that the MC doesn’t like mysteries and has no real interest, in solving any. That’s made it a bit challenging since he’s the MC of a mystery book.
My goal is 20k, and I thought I might need to up it to 25k, but my story has majorly slowed down right now (first time in 18k words), so the idea of raising it seems a little much. If the story picks up again then I might consider it. Or maybe I’ll just go over my goal and try to help my tent reach our tent goal. π I am now past 20k words this month, so it’s tempting to raise it, but I also know things are going to get really busy later this week. I guess we’ll see.
I’m hoping I can continue to work just on this story the rest of this month. Since my word count target for each Woodbreak book is at least 30k words, and I’m already at 22k, I’d love to get this story finished in the next month or so. (Each Woodbreak book has gotten about 2k words longer than the one before so, according to my sister, this one should be about 40k.)
The weather here has been a mixture of cold and warmth. Some days have been cloudy and chilly. We’ve had fog and rain. But we’ve also had sunshine and warm weather. If you look, you’ll see spring flowers poking their heads up and some are even blooming. I expect it will be warm enough to go swimming (if you don’t mind cold water) in the lake before camp is over.
Well, I should get back to my tent and see what’s going on. Maybe I’ll do some sprints later today. Bye!

Camp has been quiet in the afternoons… Maybe we’re all planning on making trips to Mexico sometime, so we’re just preparing. π

π Maybe that’s the reason!

This was fun to read! It sounds like writing camp is a lot of fun and productive for getting in word count!

It can also be a bit distracting at times too. π But yes, lots of writing is getting done.

Sounds fun and, generally, productive! (Except for those siesta hours, of course. π) I would love to join KDWC sometime if I’m able to work it into my schedule. π

It is fun. And a lot of writing got done.
We’d love to have you join us in July if you can. And you don’t have to be there every day. Some people are mostly there on the weekends, others just in the evenings, and some people come to camp but have to be gone for a week or so in the middle.
