Dear Readers,
Here I am, still at Camp even though it ended yesterday. I’m helping get the cabin clean. It’s amazing how many chocolate candy wrappers didn’t make it to the trash can! Some of the girls are already gone, but some of the others are still hanging around. Since we don’t have to leave for a couple more days, a few of us might get some more sprints in, have a few more camp fires and just visit without the pressure of getting our word counts met.
But let me tell you a bit about camp.
When I first signed up, I was in the Chatter Box again. But as March wore on and more and more girls wanted to be in the Chatter Box (probably from hearing how much fun it was last year), we were running out of beds. So, when Hannah announced a new cabin being built nearby, I volunteered to move over there with her and someone else who wanted to be in my cabin. It was a really nice cabin! New windows that opened and closed easily, new beds and mattresses, not those flat things that sag in the middle and creak and groan with any move you make! And with it being so new, we didn’t have to even think about spiders, bugs or snakes. A couple other girls from the Chatter Box moved Next Door with us.
April arrived and Camp officially started. I began with high hopes of reaching and passing my goal of 20k words even though I knew I’d be gone some of the time. Though I had planned on working on a new story, I rather doubted I’d get much done on it as I really didn’t have any ideas. Oh, well, I knew I could work on Hymns in the Hills. But that changed. I was working as an Election Judge on the 3rd of April and decide to ask my fellow judges for suggestions for my new story. They flooded me with ideas!
Back at camp the next day, I wrote. And since then I have only worked on my new story. It’s kind of strange because it really doesn’t even have a working title yet.
I was gone for three days the second week of camp, but have been around the rest of the time. For some reason I didn’t really get into hours of writing this time. And, though I was hoping to do it, I never got one full day of writing in. I guess I was too busy with other things. Oh, well. I was still able to reach my goal of 20k words by the 27th.
One other way this Camp was different than last year was that we only had a half filled cabin. In a way it was nice because we didn’t have hundreds of messages each time we gone on, but in other ways it was a bit sad as there wasn’t always someone around to write with. However, I did enjoy my third time at Camp NaNo. Will I be back for July? I don’t know. I might be. I’d like to do it again. But I’ll have to wait and see what’s going on.
Did you do Camp NaNo this April? How did you do?
Amy R says
I had a wonderful Camp NaNo experience. Thank you ladies for opening a new cabin and allowing me to be a part of the experience. I hope we can gather around the campfire a little more and I hope to see y’all at Camp again next time. Blessings! *Stoops to pick up my pile of chocolate wrappers from under my bunk.*

I’m very glad you got to join us, Amy! Hopefully we’ll have just as wonderful a group in July. *holds out trash bag for candy wrappers*

I loved how you wrote this, it made it sound like so much fun! π I have never done Camp NaNoWriMo but it sounds so neat, maybe I’ll do it one of these years. π Is there an age limit?

Oh, yes, you should do it, Olivia! I know there is for regular NaNo, but I don’t think so for Camp. I’ll ask someone though and let you know. There’s another camp in July and you’re welcome to come Next Door with us! (I’m hoping to be there!)

There really isn’t an age limit for Camp. If you have doubts about it, ask your parents. π But, because you can set your goal for whatever you want, it makes it a lot easier.
Anna says
Yay for Camp NaNo! Awesome job writing, Rebekah!
Wish I could have joined you girls in the cabin again this year, but I figured it would help my word goal out a bit if I didn’t have the distraction of the epic-ly fun Chatter Box Girls. π
Congrats on reaching your goal!

Thanks, Anna! Next Door wasn’t nearly as distracting as the Chatter Box! Perhaps that was because there were only a dozen of us instead of 20. There were some moments of fun and laughter, but there were also times of brainstorming, sprinting, and encouraging.
How did your writing go?
Anna says
Aw that sounds like a blast!! If I go to Camp in July I’ll have to see about joining Next Door. π
My writing went pretty well, thanks! π Reeally slow and hard for some reason, but I made my goal WHILE still doing normal life!! Wow! lol

Yes! We have plenty of bunks Next Door. π
Congratulations on reaching your goal!

Oh, yes, our bonfire last night was the best! π And we didn’t have to even think of writing!

Camp was so fun, and I’m glad that I got to be in your cabin. I’m also glad that you’re cleaning up all of the chocolate wrappers… we probably would’ve gotten in trouble if you didn’t. π

I’m glad you were in my cabin too, Leona Ruth! It was fun getting to write and visit with you.
*tosses a chocolate wrapper in the trash* You can check the empty bunks for lost papers. I think our pillow fight might have sent some flying.* π
Leona Ruth says
Okay, I’ll do that. *looks in the closet corner* Look what I found! A whole bunch of papers! It’s a good thing we’re cleaning! π
