Let’s talk names, shall we?
This story has a lot of characters! And all these characters had to have names. One thing I either love or hate, is coming up with names for everyone. So often I end up with the same sort of names. But not this time. Because this story is set in the late 1800s, I was able to find names that fit more of the era.
Because this family lives in the hills and never had much in the way of schooling, I had the fun of shortening almost every single name into a nickname.
I love nicknames. Maybe it’s because I’ve grown up with about half a dozen nicknames myself, but I greatly enjoyed shortening names into:
Zeke, Ez, Riss, Ali, Kade, Rome, Jess, and so on.
With so many names, it got confusing until I wrote them all down. That helped me make sure no one got left behind on a trip to town. Though one of them wouldn’t have minded. 🙂
