I was a new blogger on WordPress. I didn’t know much about the site, but I had moved over from Blogger because it would make things easier for sharing my books and such. (It also gave me assurance that my site wouldn’t be deleted without warning.) In the first months I was doing all right. My posts were basic, and I really didn’t have many pages. But I wanted to do more.
Then I learned of this site called WP101. I was giving the opportunity to get a lifetime membership for $.99, so I did. At the time they only had one video course about a basic Word Press site. But I figured it might help me.
I watched the course and learned several things. They came out with another course and I watched that. My confidence was growing. Then I sort of forgot about WP101 and went about my blogging duties without a thought.
Fast forward to December of last year.
I had scheduled all my blog posts for the month of December (24 of them) ahead of time. Then one day I went to a post to change something only to find the entire way to format and set up my blog posts was different. Not only was it different, I couldn’t figure out how to fix it! Talk about panic!
Somehow, after spending over an hour messing with it, I managed to make the needed changes, and then I didn’t dare do anything. Something had changed. But what? And why?
It wasn’t until January that I thought to check WP101 and see if they had the answer. Did they ever! There was an entire course on the new block formatting of posts! Not only that, but I was told how I could go back to the old way for several months while I learned how to use the new format. This I did right away.
Now I’m settled in again and know that if something changes, I can go to WP101 and check for information. Had I not had WP101, I would have spent hours trying to find information online about what to do and how to do it, tears of frustration and confusion would have fallen, and I might have been ready to give up blogging altogether. And did I mention that each “lesson” is only around 5 minutes long?
So, if you are thinking of starting a WordPress site, or are new to Worpress, you might want to consider getting a membership to WP101. You can get a lifetime membership, or one that lasts a year.
Would you want instructional videos to help you learn WordPress? Do you use Blogger or WordPress? Have you ever had your blogging platform change something on you without warning?
