I’m happy to get to share the republishing of this book with you today!
The Old River Road by Hailey Rose
When seventeen-year-old Clara Boutwell married her dashing coworker, William McDonald, she was convinced her life was nearly perfect. For newlyweds in the great city of Chicago, the journey ahead was exciting and promising. When a frightening disease takes William in its grip, the young couple is forced to the clean air of the western frontier in a desperate attempt to save his life. On the eastern Washington prairies, the McDonalds face hardships and trials in a new world where everything is tested, from physical endurance to emotional strength—down to their relationship and faith in the Lord. This novel tells the incredible true story of Clara and William, the great-great grandparents of the author, in a sweet narrative full of laughter, tears, and the struggles of an early pioneering family.
My Rating: 5 of 5 stars
My Review:
I’ve been wanting to read this book since I first heard it was being written. I wasn’t disappointed. Well written, engaging, sweet, heartbreaking–it was all there. I had to wipe tears away so I could keep reading. (I don’t usually cry when I read a book.) Knowing that this story is based on the events of real people made the story even better. You could tell the author has seen many of the places in this book for the descriptions weren’t vague as so often happens. My only complaint was that book 2 isn’t out, and I have to wait to find out what happens next to Clara and Will.
This is definitely a book I will be rereading and recommending to others.
I was given a copy by the author in exchange for my honest review.
I “met” Hailey Rose years ago before she’d even published her first book. She had contacted me with questions about writing and publishing, and we chatted back and forth for a while. She shared with me her thoughts about writing under a pen name: Ivy Rose. Since then I’ve watched her release her first and then second books under that name. I’ve read each one and loved them. Now, she is republishing her first book under her real name. This book has been edited, updated, and even added to!

I reviewed this book when it first came out– it was my first blog tour, if I remember right!– and I loved it! It’s a little strange to see a different author name on the front, but I’m glad that the cover didn’t change much otherwise– I really like it. 🙂 I would be interested to read the updated version!

Me too. Yes, I’m glad she didn’t change the cover except for the author name. 🙂 That would have been strange!
