Today’s Christmas book is for all you military lovers out there. And yes, I’m thinking of you.
Pieces on Earth by Cathy Bryant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading this story. I certainly wasn’t excepting to enjoy it as much as I did!
Liv is a Navy wife getting ready for their first Christmas as a family in years. Her emotions and struggles when her husband is suddenly deployed again were so real. I felt for her, and wished I could be there for her but was glad she had a friend and her mom who are both military wives.
Chesney was adorable! Her quaint little thoughts, her longing to have her daddy back home, just endeared her to me.
I loved how this author didn’t just make this family “Christian” by going to church and saying a few prayers. No, there were wonderful bedtime stories about the Bible with Chesney, and some more difficult truths made easy. I found tears in my eyes when Chesney gave her mom the Christmas present she had made! And the ending?! I can’t say anything.
There was one euphemism that I noticed used sarcastically.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves stories about the military.
