Today’s story has no words. No really. Perhaps you have had too many words lately and you just want a break. Or maybe you have a younger sibling or a young friend who just loves looking at pictures. Maybe you do too. If so, try today’s book.
Peter Spier’s Christmas! by Peter Spier

Not a single word is in this story. But the pictures tell a fun tale of a family at Christmas time. So many little details–like lost mittens–in the story. Quite fun to make up your own words for the story if you were “reading” it will children, or even yourself.
I can’t ask if you’ve read this story because there’s nothing to read. But have you looked at it? If you have, did you make up your own story to go with the pictures? Are there any other picture only books that you enjoy at Christmas time?

I think his picture books are simply wonderful for making up your own stories! My parents would check a lot of his books out of the library, and we spent many happy hours with our heads bent over his illustrations, supplying the words that weren’t there. The perfect way to encourage story-telling and imagination in your children! Have you seen ‘Rain’? Still a favorite!
