Most Christmas books I read don’t have police officers in them. But this one does. And today this book is Free!
Coffee Shop Christmas by Ryana Miller
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
3.5 stars
I was debating on giving it 4 stars, but decided 3.5 was right.
I loved the aspect of a police officer’s widow running a coffee shop and ministering to the other members of the police force and their families. The importance and danger of the police officers is portrayed without being overly dramatic. And I smiled each time a police officer walked through the door.
Each character was different and had their own problems, and I liked that, but I never really felt like I got to know them very well. I wanted to make the characters stay around and get stranded together for a longer time. Another thing that felt a bit odd for such a short book was the sentences from a book the shop owner was reading that kept being inserted. I didn’t feel like they added much to the story. But they were only in there a little, so I can’t really complain.
Though this story takes place on Christmas Eve, I didn’t get much of that feel. I did get a sense that it was Christmas time, but I kept thinking it was a few days before Christmas instead of Christmas Eve.
All of that, yet I did enjoy the story. I don’t get to read many that stand up for our police officers. I applaud this author for doing so! And I appreciated the clear Gospel message in the story.
*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts are my own. (Who else’s would they be?)*
