My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A wonderful Christmas story set in Norway! While it begins in the summer, most of the story takes place later and ends at Christmas time. I love reading about Christmas traditions in other countries, and this author does a great job of taking you on a visit to a small fishing village on the Norwegian coast.
Arne is a wonderful character who isn’t perfect, but tries hard to do what he should. The other characters–Bergel, Gustav, and all the rest–are a delight to read about. The descriptions were charming, and all the talk of their special Christmas foods was making me want some.
There is excitement, touching moments, and even some places to smile over. This is a story I’ve read many times and would recommend it to anyone.
Have you read any other Christmas stories by Alta Halverson Seymour? What country would you like to spend Christmas in? Do you like lots of snow at Christmas time?
