I just came across this book earlier this year, and since I enjoyed it, I wanted to share it. Besides, we need some good picture books.
The Christmas Coat: Memories of My Sioux Childhood by Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
What a sweet Christmas story. It was written by a woman who grew up on a Sioux reservation and her special Christmas. I loved the emphasis on putting others first even when you need something as much or more than the other person.
The illustrations were a delight.
This is a Christmas story I’ll be happy to read to my nieces and nephews.
Have you read this story? Have you read any Christmas stories about Native Americans? Do you enjoy stories based on real experiences?

*heart eyes* As you know, I’m part Cherokee, sooo…this made me so happy! I love stories with my ancestors spotlighted as well as other tribes! Cherokee make their way into a lot of books! *beams*
I love books about true life experiences! My siblings have a Christmas book about Mike Huckabee and his sister as children and something about knowing he’s a real person and not fiction made that book an instant favorite!

Yes! Real events and people make some of the best stories.
