Are you in the mood for a Christmas story that is based on real people and events but told as though it’s fictional? What about a story that has siblings? Yes? I thought so.
The Lion in the Box by Marguerite de Angeli
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This story is such a delight to read! I love each of the children who work so hard to help their mother who has to go out at night to clean, and who take care of one another. I enjoyed the stories they tell each other as they work together creating decorations for their Christmas tree. Each child is different. Their neighbors are special too.
The setting of a New York flat in 1901 is different and adds a unique flavor for the story.
In the back of the book the author gives a little background about the story which is based on real events.
Have you read many stories that take place in New York during Christmas time (that aren’t modern)? Have you read this book? What is one of your favorite historical fiction Christmas books?
