Today’s story is a favorite and has been since I was a child. But don’t read any abridged versions, it won’t be the same. You can get it for free.
The Birds’ Christmas Carol by Kate Douglas Wiggin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I love this story! Having heard or read it every Christmas for as long as I can remember, it has become a part of my Christmases. Carol Bird, who was born on Christmas morning, plans and makes a special Christmas with the help of her family and Uncle Jack for the “Ruggleses in the rear” in honor of her 10th birthday. I find myself laughing as well as shedding a few tears as I reread this story year after year. I would recommend it to any age.
Have you read this story? Is there a Christmas story that you grew up with and still love? If so, please share as I’m always looking for more Christmas stories.

Ooh, I may have to look into this one! A Christmas book I grew up with was Santa’s Evil Twin by Dean Koontz. It’s a kid’s picture book, but I still love that fluffy little book.
The Family Under The Bridge by Natalie Carlson is another Christmas book I adore, and I think you might like it too!

Thanks for sharing. I’ll have to look up The Family Under the Bridge as I’ve never heard of it.

I agree; I read abridged versions every time I tried it for years and couldn’t stand it! Then I finally stumbled across the full version and really liked it. Somehow the parts they always cut make all the difference!

I like this book as well, and it has additional sentimental value, as it was a favorite of my great-great-grandmother’s (she named her daughter Carol because of this story). Love of books runs in our family. 🙂

Oh, that’s so neat! Isn’t it special when you love a book a relative of yours also loves/d?
