Book #11 Christmas Oranges

December 8, 2017 by readanotherpage 9 Comments

Time for another Christmas picture book. The pictures are absolutely beautiful even if the story was sad, sweet, and wonderful all at the same time.

Christmas OrangesChristmas Oranges

Linda Bethers

The only home little Rose has ever known was the orphanage, but Mrs. Hartley cares for all the children as if they were her own. Then Mrs. Hartley dies, and Rose is sent to a new orphanage, which is as cold and cruel as her previous home was kind. Gradually Rose makes a few friends, and she learns from them that every Christmas a generous neighbor donates a box of oranges for the children.

An unimaginable treat for a little orphan girl, an orange is an unknown luxury for little Rose. But on Christmas morning, there is no orange for Rose, only a broken-hearted child. What happens next is part of the miracle of Christmas . . .

In a charming retelling of this well-loved story, author Linda Bethers brings to new life the spirit of Christmas . . . and of love.

My Review

When I first looked at this book, the pictures captured my attention right away and I had to sit down and read the whole story. Oh, it was sweet. And yes, I wanted to cry! And I wanted to write a sequel to it. This is a book every story lover should have on their shelf to remind them that Christmas is not about getting, it’s about giving.

I’m still trying to find out what story this is based off of! If anyone can tell me, please end my search! I want to read the full thing.

Oh, how sweet! I didn’t know there was a book for Christmas Oranges. A few years ago I watched a movie with my family that is based on this story. I’m sure the pictures in the book are absolutely beautiful.

    What a great idea!!!

OK, it’s not a Christmas book, but one of my favorite picture books is “Adèle & Simon”, by Barbara McClintock. (And yes, I’m 16 years & 11 months old, and yes, I’ve read it several times). It is just *so* cute and cool!!! My little siblings (4-11) love it too. 🙂

I love picture books too! 🙂 And as I have nieces and nephews, they benefit from new books too. Thanks for sharing about this. I’ll have to look it up.
