Today I’m happy to introduce you to another Indie Author Jesseca Wheaton. You probably know her for her Questions of War books, or one of her other books I Don’t Dance, The Silent Blade, and Beyond the Horizon.
Welcome to Read Another Page, Jesseca. I’m glad you could join me today. Let’s sit down and get started shall we?
Thank you so much for having me!
First off, could you tell my readers just a little bit about yourself?
I’m a christian homeschool graduate and Indie author. I love all things coffee, iced tea and book related. And I’m pretty certain there’s no place like home.
As a writer, if you had the chance to go and spend two weeks anywhere in the world, where would you go? And why?
Ohhh, that’s a hard question. Either Pearl Harbor, Germany, Or Washington D.C. Because research + history = Amazingness.
Wow, those would be some interesting places to go. Maybe you’ll get to one of them someday.
When you hear the word “May” what things come to mind?
Summer is almost here! May is just one more stepping stone on the trek to my favorite season, so that’s always fabulous. 😀 Also, school ending for most people, the wheat in the fields turning gold, and the corn just starting to come up. Yup, I love the country.
Yep, I can tell you’re a country girl.
I’m sure you have many ideas for stories. Have you ever had to deal with which story to work on first? How do you handle that situation?
Not really . . . I mean, when I get another idea, I try and find ways I can combine it with my current WIP. Not only does it keep me sane because I’m not chasing all the plot bunnies my head seems to find, but it also means I don’t normally run into writers block because I have another scene idea I can use if I get stuck. The exception would be my latest WIP, I Don’t Dance. It was way different then anything I’d ever written so I couldn’t really add the idea to any of my other books.
That’s great! I wish I could work all my ideas into my current WIP, but most of the time that doesn’t happen.
Since it is May and the weather for many parts of the country are getting warm, do you ever write outside? If so, where? If not, why not?
Not normally, because I currently don’t have a laptop and I really dislike writing stories in notebooks. Often I will head outside to journal or have devotions, but that’s about the extent of it.
That makes sense.
What is the biggest distraction for you when you are writing? Social Media? Goodreads? Family members? Dreaming of chocolate? That book that you want to read? Your mind wandering to who-knows-where? Something else?
Instagram. To the point where I made myself turn off notifications for it and only be on it at certain points during the day. I’m not sure what it is about it that is so attractive…*shrugs* I just know that if I’m not careful I end up wasting a lot of time on it. 😉 And oh, dreaming of chocolate. Definitely another issue. And dreaming about reading the book I’m working on if someone else can write it for me. Because, you know. it’d just somehow be cooler that way.
I think that’s the first time I’ve heard of Instagram being the biggest distraction. Oh, and yes! If only someone else could just get the book I’m writing finished already so I can read it! 🙂
And one last question. What book have you read recently that made you just read another page?
Chuck Black’s “Cloak of Light”. Because it was supernatural fiction I had originally decided it was a series I wasn’t going to read, but when I found an almost brand new copy for $3 I couldn’t resist. So I picked it up and was hooked. It was so different then what I had expected, and there was an army ranger guy in there. So that automatically gave it bonus points.
Fun to find a book you loved out of one you didn’t think you’d enjoy.
Any last thing you want to share, Jesseca, before you have to leave?
This is kinda random and not at all book related, but . . . treasure each and every moment life brings. You’ll never get it back. That something I’ve been really working on.
That is wonderful advice to writers, readers, and anyone. Thanks so much for coming by! *hands over a box of chocolates* I so enjoyed getting to visit with you.
*accepts chocolate* It was my pleasure!
