Welcome to a special Read Another Page interview with author, Hannah Foster!
Rebekah Morris: Hi Hannah! Welcome to the Read Another Page library. Would you tell my readers a little about yourself, as I’m sure not everyone knows you.
Hannah Foster: Hi Rebekah’s readers! I’m Hannah Foster, most importantly a Christian saved by grace alone. I am also a wife, homemaker, and work part-time as a barista. I write Christian contemporary romance with a small-town feel. I didn’t really start writing fiction till my mid-twenties. I am the only left hander in a family of eleven. I love all things vintage. I don’t actually like reading most Christian contemporary romance, but I do love reading classics, historical romance, mysteries, and westerns. I also really like listening to old western music.
Rebekah Morris: You said you didn’t start writing fiction until later. Did you write other things before then?
Hannah Foster: I used to be very faithful at journaling, I dabbled in poetry, I’ve been blogging since I was sixteen, and in college I wrote a lot of research papers.
Rebekah Morris: Sounds like you’ve had a lot of writing practice before you started writing fiction. What made you decide to join the ranks of fiction writers? Did you used to dream of being a published author? Or was it more of something that just happened? Or what?
Hannah Foster: I had considered the possibility of writing fiction or publishing, but never thought about it very seriously because I didn’t think I could come up with a whole novel or even a short story. And as for publishing, I never wanted to go through the grueling process of editing or rereading my own writing over and over again. But honestly, the thing that most motivated me to go for it I think was simply the fact that my husband and I were moving to Israel in 2019 and because I wouldn’t be able to have a job there, I needed something to help occupy my time. So, I figured what better time to try writing fiction. And learning that I could self-publish through Amazon, was an added motivator to actually finish some of my stories.
Rebekah Morris: That’s neat! How many stories have you published?
Hannah Foster: I guess I have five stories total published, though one of them is a very short story for a collection. And I have a sixth story to be published this year in another collection.
Rebekah Morris: That’s great! Do you plan your stories out or just write and see where they go?
Hannah Foster: I write and see where the story takes me. Sometimes I come up with some general idea in my head, but I don’t think I have ever written out an outline for a story. It’s much more exciting to see what will happen as I write.
Rebekah Morris: That sounds like how I write. 🙂 What sort of stories do you write? Do you write just one genre or different ones?
Hannah Foster: I mostly write Christian contemporary romance, but I have also written Christmas stories and Christian family fiction. I have attempted to write some historical romance fiction, though I don’t intend to publish those probably.
Rebekah Morris: Wow. Sounds like you like to write different things. Do you have any stories in the works right now?
Hannah Foster: Hehe! Well, it depends on exactly what you mean by that. Technically, yes. I have quite a few stories in various stages from not finished to first drafts to edits in progress. But honestly, I haven’t been writing much at all lately. So, am I actually actively working on any of them? Not exactly. I definitely have some that I would like to come back to sooner than later, but I guess at the moment I’ve kind of put most of my writing on hold besides the one Christmas story that is to be published this year and hopefully that one is as edited as it needs to be.
Rebekah Morris: Sometimes writing has to take a back burner, so to speak, even for us authors. Is there anything you’d like to share or mention with my readers before you go?
Hannah Foster: Only that A Homewood Christmas just got published this year and it has my most recent Christmas story included alongside several other wonderful authors’ delightful stories, so definitely check it out.
Rebekah Morris: Oh, that’s exciting! We need more Christmas stories! Thanks so much for joining me, today, Hannah!
Hannah Foster: Thanks for having me!

Loved the interview, Rebekah and Hannah! Oh, more interviews sound like a fun idea! Um, how about another author from the Homewood Christmas collection? Or maybe someone from the upcoming KDWC’s collection Everything?
