I’ve written letters “from” writing camp. I’ve talked about KDWC before, but what is it really? And why did it start? What should you know about it before you consider joining?
King’s Daughters’ Writing Camp
What is KDWC?
KDWC stands for King’s Daughters’ Writing Camp which is a Christian community of girls/women who come together virtually to encourage each other in their writing efforts and their walk with our Heavenly Father. We use the Slack platform for our “camps” and have different channels for things like chatting and visiting, asking writing related questions, devotionals, writing areas, as well as different “tents” to break the large number of writers into smaller groups. Each “tent” has an Auntie (because Aunties sounded more fun then Counselors) who is an older, more mature lady to answer questions, encourage and try to make sure things don’t get too crazy in the tent. π
Why did we start KDWC?
KDWC began back in 2020 when NaNo started really promoting things that we, as Christian ladies, could no longer condone or be connected with. It was our desire to have something that promoted truth and right, that encouraged ladies of all ages not just in their writing, but also in their Christian faith. Since such a thing was not available, a few of us decided to create something ourselves. We prayed and got to work setting up the first camp, and God blessed beyond our expectations! We have had campers from around the world and writers who are all ages!
What should you know about KDWC?
This camp is only for girls/women. (Sorry to all the guys out there who would love a Christian place like this to write.)
There is no schedule for writing at this camp as girls from all different time zones join. You are welcome to get on as much or as little as you like. Some hop on first thing in the morning to get a bit of writing done, and then are gone to work or school until later in the day. Others are only on in the evenings, while others are on or around most of the day.
There is a very wide variety of stories that are being written during camp, and there is no requirement about what you can write at camp.
This is a writing camp, so everyone who comes will be required to have some sort of writing goal.
If it feels a bit overwhelming, you are welcome to just hang out in your “tent” or mute any channels you aren’t interested in.
Things do get a little crazy at times. π How could they not with over a hundred girls?
The Aunties are always ready and willing to answer questions, help you deal with anything that comes up, or just chat if you need it.
Are there requirements for joining KDWC?
Yes. You must agree to our Statement of Faith and agree to follow the Camp Rules. If you are under the age of 16, you must have a parent’s approval to join (Slack’s requirement). The only other thing is that you must decide on a writing goal. It can be a certain number of pages you want to edit, a certain number of hours you want to work, or a specific number of words you want to write. Anything is fine as long as it’s a writing goal.
Registration opens today!
Have you ever joined KDWC? Do you love to write? If you have been a part of KDWC before, what is something you love about it?
Savannah Dawn Marie says
I’ve been to KDWC, and it and all the campers have helped me find myself as a writer. The women who are part of this camp are beyond kind and supportive. Everyone is willing to answer any questions that you may have, betta read a story for you, or even sit down and help you get through of a difficult case of writer’s block! I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that the King’s Daughter’s Whiting Camp and all my sister’s in Christ, have truly changed my life! If you’ve never been, I really recommend coming this summer. YOU WON’T REGRET IT!
See ya by the Lakeside!

I can’t wait! I got my sister to sign up too! We have a few things going on in July, so we will mysteriously vanish for a few days. I am so so excited!!!!!

Oh, that’s great about your sister, Bree! Hehe, others have mysteriously vanished for a few days too. As long as you let someone know where you are, we won’t get a search party organized to find you. π

Such a great idea! Unfortunately, I can’t join because of other things I’m doing this summer. But, I wish everyone else the best with their writing! I’ll be cheering from the sidelines! π
