Dear Readers,
Here I am at camp once again. I seem to be here quite a lot, don’t I? Maybe I should consider building a permanent house on the grounds so I can stop packing and unpacking only to pack again. Imagine living on 700 acres with mountains and a lake and woods, and trails, and no one else. Okay, I think I’d have to talk some others in to staying here with me as I think I’d get lonely pretty quickly.
Anyway, we’re into the third full week of camp and it’s been good. Lots of words written. I had a great first full week and got just over 17k words written! I wrote an entire novella that week. It was an accident. Promise. I wasn’t sure what to write, so I asked for some names, and ages, and time of year, and settings, and themes, and lo and behold, a new story! This one was vastly different in that it was all written without breaking off to work on something else, and it is all in first person. If you are a reader of my books, you know that all except a few of my shorter stories are written in 3rd person. Home Fires is a mixture of both.
Yes, this story (which I haven’t come up with a title for yet) will be published. I’m just not sure when.
Anyway, my tent is pretty quiet this camp. There hasn’t been a whole lot of chatting and stuff. But we’ve sprinted, and we all put in progress that very first week! It’s been an enjoyable group. Some of my girls aren’t around much, but others are on almost every day. We’ve already at 61%, and I’ve upped my goal twice! My original goal was 20k. Now it’s 40k, but I’m at 31k, so only 9k more words to reach that goal!
I challenged my girls to an Auntie vs Campers challenge to see if I could write more than all of them together. What do you think happened? My campers won by a little over 1,200 words. But I had written over 12k.
We’ve had several different challenges this camp. We had the Early Bird challenge, the 5k in 5 day challenge, and the 10k in 8 day challenge (which is currently going on). Who knows, another challenge might appear later.
Over the weekend we had Hat Day at camp. No, we didn’t require all the campers to wear hats. But all the aunties did. And we had some fun activities, including a hat prompt writing challenge.
Anyway, it’s lunch time. Here’s all the badges I’ve earned so far. Aren’t they fun?
And now I really am leaving because I’m hungry and I don’t think I’ll write well if I’m hungry. Bye! Maybe I’ll see you around camp next time.
