There are many book series. Some are more popular and others are not. I thought it would be fun to have a series about book series and share some of these with you all.
Chip Hilton by Coach Clair Bee
Overview:
Chip Hilton and his friends attend high school together and then college. They play baseball, football, and basketball. This series takes you though the years and the different sports. There are lessons learned, new friends made, growing up, and more.
Main Characters and Relationships:
Chip is a great main character. His father died when he was a boy and it’s just been him and his mom. I love their relationship. The friendships Chip (and his mom) have with Soapy, Speed, Red, Biggie, and the others is refreshing.
Pros and Cons:
Pros: Lots of information and tips on playing sports. Dealing with difficult people, not taking offense, forgiving, helping others, humility, working for the team and not individual glory, and more, are all things that are learned in these books. There is some talk about going to church and praying.
Cons: The reprinted versions have been updated to try and make them more modern with email and computers. Most of the time though the stories feel like the 1950s which is when they were originally written, so sometimes the “modern” things feel out of place.
My Thoughts:
I enjoy this series. I think there was one book I skipped rereading just because I didn’t like the new coach, but things got straightened up. I love how Chip influences his friends in doing the right thing. He’s always trying to think the best of people and play his best. This is a series I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys sports stories with great characters.
How Many Books:
There are 24 books in this series.
