5th Tues. It’s Real Life – Pets

November 30, 2021 by readanotherpage 8 Comments

For our last In Real Life post let’s take a look at pets.

I don’t always have pets in my stories but when I do it is most likely going to be a dog. A big dog. Why? Well, until I was 11 we had a collie who looked just like the one in the picture. Her name was Lassie and I loved her. She was so patient and kind. She let me use her as a pillow, would play with us, and even found and tried to take care of a baby rabbit one time. I think growing up with a big dog like that gave me a love of them and so they wind up in my stories.

Now, we did have a long-eared rabbit named Clover but I’ve never had a pet rabbit in my stories. Not sure why. Perhaps it’s the memories of being bitten by her that keep me from including a rabbit.

As for cats . . . well, I’m not fond of cats. Never have been. Kittens are okay if they aren’t in my yard and they disappear before they get to be cats. I have included a few barn cats and I think only one of them has ever been named.

So, if you read my stories, look for the big dogs.

Did you have pets growing up? Do you like big dogs? What would be your ideal pet? If you are a writer, do you include pets in your stories?

I have one dog who is adorable. He’s a little dog (a cockapoo), but he is super smart and thinks he is a person:) I’m not a huge fan of cats either, but we took care of someone’s cat this week and they’re growing on me a little bit.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cockapoo. I’ll have to look it up.
I don’t mind most cats if they live far away from my house and don’t bother me. 🙂

I don’t have any pets (I get really nervous around most animals, but I like them from a distance) . I prefer big dogs, yes! My favorite is Siberian Husky. 🙂 My ideal pet is a horse! But there’s no way we have room for one. haha. I often include farm animals in my stories and outdoor pets, but they’re usually not a big part of the book. I’m thinking of doing some books that include more about pets though. I’ve noticed that your books have big dogs. Fun!

I don’t currently have any pets either, Joyful. Oh, I don’t think I’ve ever included a Husky. That might be fun. 😀 Pets in books are easier to take care of. 😉

I used to have a cat, a rabbit, and my family raised chickens. It was a lot of fun. Your dog sounds so sweet and adorable. I loved the Lassie movie (though it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it!)

My current WIP revolves around rats–domesticated, of course. 😉 There aren’t very many of those.

Rats. Hmm, not sure I’ve had rats in any of my stories, domesticated or not.
