Don’t drink it.
Don’t like it.
Don’t include it.
End of story.
I actually thought of leaving the post just like that, but decided you might want a little more. 😉
In real life I do not like coffee. Never have, doubt I ever will. I don’t mind the smell of some coffee, but some actually makes me sick to my stomach. And since I don’t like coffee, and no one in my house really drinks coffee except my mom who drinks some coffee with her afternoon chocolate, I haven’t ever really thought about adding coffee to my stories. Unless they are a western story. Then I’ll add some plain black coffee.
I did just recently publish a shorter story where the MC gets her fancy coffee drinks every day, but since I have no idea who sort of names to use for those fancy drinks, I just called it “coffee”.
Most of the time I don’t even think about coffee when writing my stories, but when I wrote Dylan’s Story I made an effort to keep coffee completely out of the book because I was sick and tired of every story I read having people addicted to coffee! I mean that’s all they ever seemed to drink. Coffee. Coffee. Coffee!!
(One author actually took my wish that someone would have an MC who DOESN’T like coffee and made it happen. It was so much fun!)
So, that’s why there is hardly any coffee in my stories.
What about you? Do you like coffee? Do you include it in your stories? Is there a drink or food that you make an effort to add or leave out?

I actually don’t really like coffee… I occasionally drink it, but that’s about it.

This was fun to read!
I don’t drink coffee often, and when I do, it’s generally only a sip or two at a time. Tea upsets my stomach, so I’m a little wary of what coffee might do to me.
With the exception of green beans (I had a traumatic experience with those once 😂), I enjoy writing about different kinds of food, even if I don’t normally eat/drink them. It’s my way of “living through my writing” 😁
Thanks for sharing!

I’m not much of a tea drinker either, Ellen. Only if I’m fighting a cold or something. It’s fun to add foods that you either love or some you’ve never had. 🙂

I’m not a coffee drinker either! You are so right that it seems like almost EVERYONE real or fictional drinks coffee constantly…do they really all love the stuff that much?!?
I can drink an occasional highly sweetened and creamed iced coffee or something, but other other that…
I absolutely LOVE tea, though😍 and it almost never fails that every time I read about someone drinking tea I really want to go drink a cup😉

Yes, I don’t like coffee, either (never actually tried it, but the smell is enough to keep me away …) It is annoying how many people are obsessed with it; although I don’t mind when it’s included for historical accuracy.

Yes, historical accuracy doesn’t bother me, and when characters drink it now and then, but when they seem to never drink anything else, and seem obsessed by it, then I have a problem. 😉
*high fives another disliker of coffee*

I hate coffee too xD and I keep it out of almost all, if not all, of my drinks too XD

More writers against over saturation of coffee in books. 😀
