Last week I challenged my readers to take the five words I gave them and write a few sentences that included those words. Oh, the creativity!
Not only was this fun, but it’s a good writing exercise. And something like this might get your brain going in ways you never thought of.
Here are the words they were told to include: Favored, Ladybug, Coral, Sprint, and Tie-dye.
Oh, the trouble I had picking my favorites! I actually liked them all, but I decided I had to pick.
My favorite Single Sentence was:
Sprinting down the track in her favored tie-dye t-shirt, Coral stopped short when a ladybug flew smack-dab into her mouth. ~ by Bree
My favorite Two Sentence Story was:
My dog, Coral, raced away with my little sister’s tie-dyed ladybug, and such a fuss I’ve never heard before! I was forced to sprint after the pup and retrieve the favored toy, proudly handing the drool-covered ladybug to my sister, who hugged it tightly and glared at Coral. ~ by Elisabeth J
My favorite Story or Start of a Story was :
“You are a disgrace to this line of work!” Coral’s uncle, the zookeeper at the zoo that she’d been helping out with for the summer, teased. “Of all the animals we’ve had shipped in from the other side of the world, the one you said you favored was the ladybug?”
Coral just smirked, then noticed that her crazy older cousin, wearing his typical tie-dye, was coming at a full sprint towards her. It was definitely a good time to get out of here and go home. ~ by CeeCee
The one that made me actually laugh out loud:
These are the five words I missed in the spelling bee: coral, sprint, ladybug, tie-dye, favored. ~ by Chloe’s dad
Honorable Mention because it was really hard to pick:
Lydia sat down at her desk and flicked a ladybug off her tie-dye dress. Opening her computer and going onto her online writer’s group, she joined a writing sprint and then spent a long time trying to find a name for her character. She definitely favoured Coral, but maybe she was a bit biased. ~ by Lydia Coral (And I’m told it is based off a real experience. 🙂 )
The others were really fun too, so if you didn’t read the comments on the last post, go check them out.
If you ever need some writing exercises, just ask some people to give you 5 words and see if you can use them in a few sentences. Bonus points if you can work them into your current story!
Have you ever tried this 5-word game? Leave a comment with 5 words and I’ll reply with a sentence or two using them. At least I’ll try. 🙂

My dad is going to love this! His second mention on your blog! (First was the 22 word story as Mr. Joyful).
I get to give you five words to try? 🙂

Daisy’s frown turned to a smile when her mom opened the curtains by the couch and she could see the yellow daffodils outside the window.

5 words: pizza, horse, carrots, painting, and ceiling. 🙂 😉

With a sigh of relief, I took a break from painting the ceiling, grabbed some pizza and carrots and went outside to see my horse while I ate. I didn’t end up getting to eat the carrots. He did.

Love it!
