5 Fall Favorites – Top 5 of 2023

September 30, 2023 by readanotherpage 11 Comments

Today is the last day! How can the Five Fall Favorites be over already? I hope you were able to gather a lot of books to add to your stack, or mountain as the case may be, of to be read books. So many genres, and lists! So many books to find, to read, to enjoy!

Since it is the final day, you know what I’m going to be sharing, don’t you? Then come along and lets sit on these blankets and have a picnic in the sunshine while I share my top five favorite books from this year.

Lost in the Middle

It took me a long time to read through this book. Not because it was dry or boring, but because there was so much to think about. No, maybe I don’t relate to many of the examples the author shared, but that didn’t mean I didn’t glean nuggets of truth and wisdom along the way. And some parts–yeah, I needed them. I’m still mulling over some things, and I’m sure I will be for quite some time.

Bendigo Shafter

There was just something about this story that made me love it. There was action, but it wasn’t all the time and it wasn’t too intense. There were wonderful pages of dialogue and the descriptions of places made me want to head west.
I loved so many characters!

Becoming Free Indeed

Well written, easy to read, and full of good truths. I did spend a number of years as part of the IBLP program, but I wasn’t taught that everything Gothard said was truth. In fact, many of the things Jinger shared were things I had never heard of. But I’m glad she did share. This is not just for people who were, or are, a part of IBLP, this is for anyone. A good reminder that man-made rules on how to better please God are not the answer.

The Time-Saving Mom

This book was so helpful. Not only does Crystal write in a voice that I found easy to read, but her advice was simple, and yet so helpful. She doesn’t come across as one of those who thinks everyone should follower her rules and steps or you won’t succeed, but instead she is so humble and gives practical advice and information and step-by-step instructions on simplifying your life and learning to manage your time instead of letting time manage you.

Winnie-the-Pooh

Rereading this old book and the wonderful imaginative stories in it was such a delight. I love each character. Pooh, Piglet, Christopher Robin, Rabbit, Owl, Eeyore, Kanga and Roo. So much fun to read of their Adventures.
The formatting and capitalization in this book are the best! And that Long Sentence which had 194 words in it was brilliant! And of course no one does the pictures for Winnie-the-Pooh better than Ernest H. Shepard.

I have read or reread some other books this year that I would have included in this list, but some are ones I’ve already shared during a Five Fall Favorites before, and others I just didn’t have room for. But before we leave, let’s go visit Kate’s blog one last time and find what other books made it to the Top 5 lists.

What are your Top 5 books from this year? Have you read any of these books? Which day of the party was your favorite for finding new books?

I’ve heard about Jinger’s book! It looks really good, and I’m glad she found true freedom in Christ.

My husband has been trying to get me into Winnie the Pooh. I’m guessing I should give it another try.

Don’t try anything Disney related, it’s just not the same. I love thinking of a dad telling his little boy the stories of his favorite stuffed animals and it just makes me smile. 🙂

They were fun days. And lots of books.
I suppose 3 books is better than none. 😉
