5 Fall Favorites – Indie Discoveries

September 28, 2023 by readanotherpage 24 Comments

Another day and more books. Don’t you just want to settle down and start reading the stack of books you’ve gathered already? I do. But we’re not done with the Five Fall Favorites! Today we get to visit some Indie books. I decided I would pick books that I was pretty sure I hadn’t already shared, so Five Star Spy won’t be on the list this year. No, I wasn’t sharing about it! I was just telling you why it wouldn’t be on the list.

Come with me to the park. I have some Indie author friends there, and I want to introduce you to some of their books. But how can I just pick five? I have stacks of Indie books that I love, and some I haven’t gotten to read yet. Well, come along, and I’ll do my best to keep this list short.

Second Family

I just reread this story and loved it even more than I did the first time! I felt like I knew the characters better and could picture it all better. Maybe that was because I was reading the paperback version that I bought instead of a kindle version. Loved this story.

Addie’s Mountain

I’ve loved Heidi since I was a young child and my grandpa read it to me, so I was excited to read this story. It was sweet and made me smile. I loved Addie and her sister Claire and their relationship. Claire’s health struggles made me want to hug her, and Addie’s difficulty at church made me want to befriend her. The setting was lovely and now I want to visit the little mountain town.

Bridge to Trouble

I really liked this story. It had excitement, danger, humor, and yet wasn’t overdone. It had none of the usual β€œgirl doing stupid stuff trying to help and getting caught by bad guys” or any of the other typical things found in so many mystery stories. I loved the descriptions and the setting. It was easy to picture everything, and while the tension was high at times, it didn’t stay that way the entire story which I liked.

Dunstan

I’ve enjoyed other books by this author and was pretty sure right at the beginning that I would enjoy this one as well. I was right.
I really liked Dunstan and cheered when things were going well for him, and hoped things would get better when they weren’t. I liked his strong Christian faith and his willingness to work hard even when he wasn’t used to the work. Grace was sweet and tender, and I liked her.

Hours We Regret

I really enjoyed this first story. I wasn’t sure about how things were going to turn out, but I am now eager to see what the next story is like. Having grown up with twins as my best friends, it’s fun to read stories where twins are the main characters. Especially twin sisters. Chelsea and Michelle are so different, but each one is fun in her own way. And I like how they are there for each other.

There, I picked out 5 Indie books. It was just as hard to choose as I knew it would be, but maybe you learned of a new book or perhaps you have read these all and can breath a sigh of relief that you don’t have to add any of these to your TBR list. If you are anything like me, you are making a list and books just won’t stay off it. But let’s go find more books over at Kate’s blog!

So, now I’m curious. Have you read all these books yet? Are there some that you just added to your list that you want to read? What is a favorite (okay, you can have 5 favorites) Indie book that you have read?

I was so excited to see you’d put Dunstan!!!! It’s one of my top top favourite ever books. And I enjoyed Second Family and Bridge to Trouble. I’ve heard of the other two but I haven’t read them yet πŸ™‚ And Five Star Spy is the best πŸ˜‰ Not that you shared that one of course. πŸ˜‰
I think this category would be super hard to do! There’s soo many great books and authors that would be on my list! πŸ˜€

It is hard, Lyds! The only thing that made it a little easier was that I’ve often shared Indie books during the FFF and decided to share ones I hadn’t shared. So of course I didn’t share Five Star Spy. πŸ˜‰

Yesss, solid choices, Rebekah!! (and good job sticking to 5 and not recommending 5 Star Spy ;P) I NEED TO READ DUNSTAN EVERYONE KEEPS TELLING ME TO. I have it, I’m just scared to read it because I’m scared I won’t like it… lol. And the others are all really great. Especially Elisabeth’s and Angie’s.

Hehe! Yeah, I didn’t do more than five books. πŸ˜› I think you would like Dunstan, but I know that feeling. Everyone says you should read it, but what if you don’t like it?

I recently read Bridge to Trouble and absolutely loved it! Not sure if I can choose between it and A Sidekick’s Tale, but it means Elisabeth Grace Foley is a fantastic author.

I’m glad you reminded me of Dunstan. I’m pretty sure I discovered it during a previous Five Fall Favorites, and I still want to read it …

Bridge to Trouble is fun! πŸ˜€
Hmm, if the same book is recommended at two FFFs and you were interested the first time but didn’t read it, does it mean you really should read it this time? πŸ˜‰

These all look good! The only one I’ve read is Dunstan. I just read it a few months ago when I had morning sickness (really bad and all day longπŸ˜…) and was trying to get my mind off of it. But it was really goodπŸ‘πŸ»

Oh dear, all day morning sickness doesn’t sound fun. But I’m glad you had a book to help. You might try some of the other ones. πŸ™‚
