Glad you could join us again for another fun day at the Literary Lodge for the Five Fall Favorites!
Come inside! Itβs gotten colder. That breeze really has a bite to it this morning. You may want to stay close to the bonfire today, or take a blanket along with you if you plan to sit in a boat and read. Riding a bike should help you get warm though if you want to venture out. Sure, hiking is also a great way to get warm. Just load some great reads into a backpack and get started. You can stop and rest on one of the benches. They are scattered all over the grounds, so no matter which trail you take Iβm sure youβll find at least one. And the barn has a loft filled with fresh hay, you could find a cozy spot up there to enjoy a stack of books. Do any of you need to borrow a bushel basket to put their collection of new things to read in? Here are a few empty ones. Have fun today exploring the acres around the Literary Lodge! We have cookies in the kitchen and hot drinks if you want any. And apples. We have plenty of apples this year.
Just so you know how this works, I’ll be sharing my Top 5 books in the day’s genre, and right below that, I’ll have the links to all the other rooms, I mean blogs. Make sure you check them all out and find the Books room because they will be offering a FREE short story! And then, below the party rooms, is the giveaway. You won’t want to miss that!
Family
Family. I have so many fond memories of my mom reading books aloud to my siblings and I when we were growing up. And of taking long road trips and listening to audio books along the way. The time passed much more quickly while listening to a great book and coloring or looking at the sights along the way.
The Railway Children by E. Nesbit
Oh, this book. I love the characters and the setting. It takes place in England and the family has to move and the children discover the joy of the railway line. There are all sorts of adventures and experiences.
Jack and Jill by Louisa May Alcott
I was sure I had shared this book before, but I haven’t. If you’ve never read Jack & Jill, you should. I enjoy each of the characters and their growth during the story.
Little House by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Do I need to say much about this series? My mom read this series aloud when I was growing up and there is just something about the life of the Ingalls family that is captivating.
The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Wyss
We had the unabridged version of this on audio, and I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to it. It never grows old. The Disney movie is not even close to the real book so don’t compare them.
I love all the Golden Text series and this is one of them. Each chapter starts with four Bible verses and one of the verses affects the character in some way. I like how it shows the importance of God’s Word and how even one verse can affect you even if you don’t think it has anything to do with the situation you are in.
Are you ready to visit all the other Party Roomsβer, blogs? Have fun and donβt forget to leave comments, add books to your TBR list and enter the giveaway! Oh, and these will open in a new tab, so donβt worry, you wonβt get lost in the acres of land around the Literary Lodge. π

*squeals at Little House books* I love those so much!!! I’ve also read The Railway Children and an abridged version of Swiss Family Robinson (I didn’t know at the time it was abridged!!! :D) Hedge Fence looks lovely! I’ve only ever read Three People by that author, and that’s one of my all-time favourite books, so… XD I keep meaning to read more! And now I know of another… *adds to TBR*
Thanks for sharing! <3
readanotherpage says
Oh, you really should read the unabridged version of Swiss Family Robinson. It is such fun.
And yes, get Hedge Fence! You can get many of Isabella Alden’s stories for free if you go to the Free page on https://isabellaalden.com/
Happy reading!
Lydia Coral W says
*gulps* I might possibly have watched the movie first and so have been very disappointed in the book? π But maybe I’ll try the unabridged version sometime… I might like it more now (It’s been years since I read it :D)
Oh, thank you!! I will definitely download some of those π
Loving FFF so much!! <3
readanotherpage says
Ugh, the movie is so awful! It is NOTHING like the real story. π Of course we grew up listening to the full thing so when we watched the movie we decided that they just took the name and the tree-house idea and made up the rest. I don’t think they even got the names right.
Lydia Coral W says
But but but… *eyes get very big* The movie is amazing!! It’s been one of my top favourites for as long as I can remember!! XDXDXD
But I agree, it’s nothing like the book π And normally, I’d hate that… but in this one case, I think they improved on the story *hides from flying Swiss Family volumes coming from all directions* XD
I really do need to reread it, though. It has been years and I might even love it the second time, who knows? π
readanotherpage says
π I promise not to throw books at you. It’s not your fault that you didn’t get the right childhood and grow up on the book in stead of the movie. π
But really, you need to read the book. Consider it a different story.
Lydia Coral W says
π€£π€£π€£Will do!!

Ahhh! I know and love all of these books! *hugs each one*
readanotherpage says
Yay! They are fun reads.
Chelsea says
Well, I seem to know more “Family” books than “Adventure” ones! I’ve read all of these but the last one!!
readanotherpage says
Yes, I did pick more common ones for this genre because they just fit. π
You should find and read the last one.
Grace Elizabeth says
Yesss! These books are all familiar to me! Any Pansy book is an, “Oh, I love that one!” Or, “Oh, I gotta find that one!” I’ve already read Hedge Fences and I love it!
readanotherpage says
Yay! Another Pansy lover! And I’m the same way about them though it’s pretty much just her shorter stories that I haven’t read all of. π
CutePolarBear says
Having read three of these, I feel sure I should definitely read the other two. (Jack and Jill is already on my TBR, and any Isabella Alden Book I come across is likely going on it).
CutePolarBear
readanotherpage says
Yep, you should read Jack and Jill, and A Hedge Fence. π
Courtenay Burden says
This FFF is starting to make me feel like a kid in a candy store! I am seeing so many books I want to read!
readanotherpage says
That’s a great way to put it, Court! Yes, so many books to read!!!!
Erika Mathews says
Jack and Jill! Definitely an all time favorite! And of course Little House. Hedge Fence is a great book too – itβs been SO long since I read it that Iβve forgotten it – never thought of it being a family read aloud, but it is. π
readanotherpage says
Yes, Hedge Fence is most certainly a family story. π And so are the rest of the Golden Text books.
Ruthann Joy says
Awesome picks!! I’ve read most of these! All the little house books (like half a million times), Swiss Family Robinson( Its been a long time…time for a reread!) and of course, the Pansy story!!! Pansy is the absolute best!!! *heart eyes*
Trying to remember if I have read Jack and Jillπ€ …I need to find that one and read it!
readanotherpage says
Yes, go find Jack and Jill. π
Another lover of Pansy! Her books are always so good.
HistoryGirl says
Swiss Family Robinson, and Little House have always been my favorites from growing up!
readanotherpage says
Oh, fun. There is just something special about books you grew up reading or having read to you over and over.
HistoryGirl says
Yes, I agree! I have never read “Jack and Jill”, but I love pretty much all of Louisa May Alcott’s other books, so I am putting it on my ‘to read’ list.
readanotherpage says
Good. Hope you enjoy it when you get to read it. π
Lilly says
The Little House Series is the only ones on here I’ve read. We had the first book on your list, but I think we got rid of it.
readanotherpage says
If you’ve only read the Little House, you should try some of the others. π
Lilly says
I plan on reading the others when I have time! π
HistoryGirl says
One of my favorite Family books is ” Five Little Peppers and How they Grew”. It is such a sweet story of five siblings growing up in their “little brown house”. Even though they are poor and their mother, who they call “Mamsie”, must work to keep food on the table, they are a happy, content little family. It is one of those books that just makes you feel happy when you read it. It is a must read for anyone who likes the ” Little House” series, or “Little Women”!
readanotherpage says
Oh, yes, the Five Little Peppers books are so sweet and fun!
Hannah Foster says
I am so glad to see Jack and Jill and The Swiss Family Robinson on your list! I had read both of them a long time ago, but then just this year I read Jack and Jill aloud to my husband. I had forgotten about that one really sad part where my favorite person dies though.
readanotherpage says
Aw, that was probably hard to read. But the story is so good anyway. π
Autumn says
Little House on the Prairie brings me warm fuzzies every time I see the books! And Swiss Family Robison is good too, though I found it to be a lot of description to wade through. These others look interesting too!
readanotherpage says
Yes, there can be a lot of descriptions in Swiss Family Robinson. Maybe that’s why I enjoyed listening to itβI didn’t have to read the descriptions. π
I have fond memories of the Little House books. I think I need to reread some.
Kenzie O'Brennan says
“Little House on The Prairie”!!! I grew up reading these, love them! This is my first time participating in FFF, btw, and I’m loving it already!
readanotherpage says
Welcome to the party, Kenzie! Glad you could join the fun and I hope you find some good books to read. π
Jana T says
I’m so happy to see Jack & Jill on your list! The Swiss Family Robinson and Little House books are also some of my favorites.
readanotherpage says
Yes, Jack and Jill is such a good story.
I seem to have picked some pretty popular books for today. π
kingofthecowboys1943 says
Little House by Laura Ingalls Wilder is on my favorites list. And The Swiss Family Robinson. So much fun and adventure and wisdom in a family context.
readanotherpage says
Exactly! Loved the family togetherness.
Lauren C says
I have such good memories of reading the Little House books aloud with my family! π I’ve listened to the Railway Children on audio before. And I’ve read Swiss Family Robinson–you’re definitely right–the movie and book are nothing alike!!
readanotherpage says
Little House books are quite popular. π
Sophia Ellen says
Oh, I don’t know if I’ve ever even heard of the first two and the last one. I started reading Little House in the Big Woods when I was around nine, but didn’t have the patience for all the description of stuff I thought was boring; maybe now that I’m older I should try it again. And I just realized that I’ve never read the unabridged version of Swiss Family Robinson, only Abeka’s children’s version for school (and I didn’t really like the movie either…)
And though I’ve never heard of it, The Railway Children looks like fun… *considers adding it to my ever-growing list of books to read*
readanotherpage says
You really should read the Little House books and the unabridged version of Swiss Family Robinson. And while you’re at it, read The Railway Children too. π
Your TBR list is supposed to grow during the Five Fall Favorites party, CeeCee. π
