Today’s theme is supposed to be Buddy-Reads, but I’ve never done a buddy read before. Ever. So I had to change it to borrowed from someone who loves books as much as I do. That would be my mom. I have read so many of her books (they are just downstairs so it’s not hard to do), that I was having a difficult time deciding on which ones I was going to share. I decided to make it a little easier by only doing book series.
Borrowing books is so nice! If you lived close enough I’d let you borrow my books. But let me share some borrowed books I’ve enjoyed and maybe you can find someone to borrow them from yourself. Or if you own them, perhaps you can let someone else borrow them.
Chip is in high school in this book and plays football. His character is part of what makes these books so good. Chip is always helping others, doing what is right, and has a wonderful relationship with his mom. (His dad died in an accident a few years before the series starts.) And Soapy, Taps, Speed, Red, Biggie and the other friends of Chip add all sorts of fun to the series.
My grandpa had some of these books when he was a boy and he gave them to us. I loved them growing up and still enjoy them now and then. No, they aren’t written for older readers, but that doesn’t matter. They are still fun. I love learning about different countries or time periods.
This was my first introduction to high stakes mysteries. I read the first one on a Sunday afternoon, and I don’t think I even took a break until I reached the end. The rest of the series is just as exciting and fun and mysterious. There is one character who does swear, and one of the books have some weird stuff, and some have some off screen torture.
If you want a lighter mystery series, then try this one. We found a few of the books and after reading them we went on a hunt for the rest of the series. Some are better than others, and yes, the characters pretty much stay the same age in all 30+ books, but they are still fun.
This has been a delightful series to read. A fun, Christian boys series set in California a long time ago. I like Jem, his father and sister. The adventures aren’t dumb or full of too much drama like so often happens. These also give an interesting look at life in California mining towns and elsewhere.
And that brings my borrowed book series to an end. Well, I could have kept going with many more book series that I have borrowed, but since I’m only supposed to share five since it is the Five Fall Favorites, I will stop. Besides, I don’t want you to get too overwhelmed with books because we have more books to discover over at Kate’s Blog.
Have you read any of these series? Have you ever done a buddy read? If so, what was it like? What are some books you’ve either borrowed or buddy read?

I’ve read Trixie (of course :D) and several of the Twins books (definitely Dutch and Japanese, but I have many more) but Mrs. Pollitano is on my TBR and the other 2 are new to me! Thanks, Rebekah!

You’re most welcome! Glad you didn’t have to add ALL today’s books to your TBR list. 😉
