Today is the start of National Novel Writing Month. Are you doing it? If so, I wish you all the best and hope you have a wonderful month!
Am I doing NaNo? No. I have never done it, though a few times I’ve considered it for more than a few minutes. ๐ But every time I think seriously about it, I seem to run into the same problems.
- It happens in November which is always a pretty busy month for me. Especially when there is an election as I always help with a week-long American Government Camp which ends the day after the election.
- I always have several stories already started that I’m trying to finish and the thought of adding one more . . . Well, let’s just say it’s not what I need right now.
- Deadlines and I don’t have the best of relations. Especially when they are writing related! My family would like to be able to live with me this month.
- Editing. I know, I know, I’m just supposed to write the first draft during NaNo, but that’s not how I work. I write best editing as I go. So for me, the very idea of writing 50k words without editing . . . Yeah, not going to happen right now.
I could give as an excuse that I’ve never written that many words in a month before anyway, but that wouldn’t work as I know many who participate in NaNo haven’t either. Perhaps some day I’ll be able to join NaNo. But until then, I’ll cheer you on if you have joined, and will look forward to all the stories you write!

Same here, especially on number 2! ๐

Yeah, what’s with us? Can’t we just write one story at a time? ๐

#1 and #4 are basically exactly why I have not considered it this year. (this year is basically the first year I have heard of it) I don’t get why NaNoWriMo could have been put sometime in the Summer when (presumably) people have more time! For us, November is most likely the second-craziest month! (second only to December, because nothing beats December :P) As for reason four, I am totally like you. If I write words quickly and sloppily, (if that’s a word) there may be words that I cannot honestly decipher. Then I have to think of another phrase or word. ๐
Another reason I would add is that I can write a novel without having a deadline/competition. I’ve proved that. So, if I want to write another one, what’s stopping me? Nothing. When I want to begin another novel, I will.

Yes, I’ve wished they had NaNo on a different month too. One that was a little less crazy. ๐ And yes, I don’t need a deadline to write a book either.
Thanks for sharing, Cute Polar Bear. ๐

I’m not doing NaNo this year either, although I have done it several times in the past. Most of your points are spot on the same with me. Why was November chosen to do it in anyway? Why not February or March? Those are much calmer months. ๐

Maybe they picked November because it started with “N” like Novel does. ๐ I really don’t know. But it would have been nice if they’d chosen a different month.
Did you reach your goal when you did NaNo before?
Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Lydia.
