2023 Reading Challenge

Welcome to the 2023 Read Another Page Reading Challenge!

What would a blog with a title like Read Another Page be without reading challenges?

I donā€™t know about you, but reading challenges have made me read many more books than I usually do. And some are even ones I wouldnā€™t have picked up otherwise. So letā€™s challenge ourselves with some reading this year! This will be the 6th year Iā€™ve hosted a reading challenge on my blog. And each year has been different. This year is no exception. Are you ready to join? I’m going things a little differently this year. I decided that I wanted to actually challenge you as readers to step outside your normal genres and expand your literary horizons. I mean, let’s face it, it’s really not much of a challenge if you never read something you wouldn’t usually read, is it?

For this year’s challenge I have a list of book genres and such for you to read. You get one point for every book read, and one point for every book reviewed. However, there are 6 books marked with ** or *** (one for each month if you take the full 6 months to complete the challenge) that will earn you extra points if you read them. (The asterisks tell you how many points you get for reading them. You don’t have to read them one a month.)

But before I give you the list, here are the rules. (Yes, we have rules.)

  1. These books may be read in any order. You do NOT have to start at the top and read down.
  2. You may count any books you read for this challenge for other challenges if you wish.
  3. In order for your books to count, they must be read in 2023 between January 1 and June 30.
  4. All books must be at least a few chapters in length. (Even two or three chapters, but they must have chapters!)
  5. This challenge starts January 1st, and ends June 30th 2023. Any books read during that time that fit the list can count.

Also, if you get anyone else to join the challenge and read at least 2 books, you get a bonus point.

To sign up simply send me an email (or message me somewhere) and let me know youā€™re joining. Iā€™ll add your name to the Reading Companions page. (You can use the Contact form if you do not already have my email address.)

When youā€™ve read a book (or more than one if youā€™d rather) comment on this 2023 Reading Challenge Page and Iā€™ll mark you down for those books. Please make sure you let me know which # the book was read for so I can mark it in the right place.

If you have been a part of my reading challenges before, you will notice that I do not have a page to share all the covers of all the books that are read during this challenge. While that was really fun to see, it also took quite a lot of time to update. So . . . I’ve created a google doc for you to add your own covers and links to your reviews. You can find that HERE.

I’m thinking about starting a magazine later in the year, Lord willing, but that would be a long time if I put my reviews in there one at a time. If you have any suggestions on what to do with the reviews, please let me know. šŸ™‚

    • Hmm, maybe you could add them to the bottom of the page with all the covers on the Google doc page. That way others could read them still.

  7. Quick question: I just finished a biography of Benjamin Franklin that I had started last year. Does it count? (I read about half in 2023, perhaps a little bit less, but it’s a 500-page book)

  8. I haven’t forgotten about this, just still trying to figure out which books go where šŸ˜†šŸ˜† I think I may have completed one or two, but I aim to get it all sorted through this weekend so I can start working towards specific tasks šŸ˜…

    • šŸ˜€ I keep reading different books and then suddenly think, “I should probably see if any of those books fit in the reading challenge.” I’m taking it easier than usual this time in that I’m not focusing just on reading books for the challenge. šŸ˜€

            for the TBR books (numbers 6-9) I thought Iā€™d only done three of them.

          • Right now, on my paper copy, I have you down for 1-9, 12, 13, 15-17, and 21. It doesn’t really matter if you read one category twice. I will just count one of them. šŸ˜€

        • Do you mean the points on the Companions page? I’m so far behind on that! I am keeping track of what people read on paper, but I haven’t gotten the points marked on the website yet.
          And are you referring to the page that tells what you can spend your points on? I’ll get that link to each person at the end of the challenge with what they have earned.

    “I Do” didn’t have an author listed, so I just put the place where I got it and I know it was likely one of the people who manages that site. I recommend this book very highly to anyone who wants to be encouraged in their walk with God!

    Question! I couldnā€™t find this in the rules… it says ā€œbooks read between January 1 and June 30ā€ – does the book have to be 100% finished to count as ā€œreadā€? I read about 75% of this one before July 1 but not 100%. So if it counts, hereā€™s the info, and if not, thatā€™s fine. (Itā€™s a great book, by the way! Highly recommended!)
