Top 5, Giveaway & Blog Hop – Siblings

October 3, 2019 by readanotherpage 36 Comments

Come join the fun with today’s books!

After that cold day yesterday today feels lovely. A soft breeze sends scarlet, gold, and orange leaves swirling down from the trees. The lake isn’t a mirror today, but don’t worry, it’s not rough so taking a ride in the boats shouldn’t be a problem. I think there’s going to be a group out in the orchard today picking bushels of apples, feel free to join them if you want. Or go read in one of the bare trees. The barn isn’t too far from the orchard, so you might enjoy some shade there if you’ve loaded up your backpack. The paths are perfect for a ride on one of the bikes today. If you’d like to grab a friend and look through your stacks of books, there are some benches with some lovely views that would make great places to sit and chat. Or read. As the evening comes and temperatures start to drop, stop by the lodge and get one of the blankets before you head over to the bonfire. Don’t you just love chilly evenings sitting around a fire and talking about books?

If you haven’t been here before, the giveaway is down below, and so are the buttons to the other party rooms. Be sure to visit them all as there are some great books being recommended, and one of them is offering a FREE kindle book!

Just a reminder, if we reach 75 people entered into the giveaway, we’ll add a 2nd place winner, so be sure to invite your friends! We need 21 more people! Help us get them!

Siblings

This genre holds so many books that I spent a lot of time going back and forth about which books I was going to share today. I love books with and about siblings. Some books focus on more than one sibling, others have a main character and then their brothers or sisters.

Helen Lester

Helen Lester by Isabella Alden (Pansy)

This is the first book my favorite author ever wrote. And it almost didn’t get published! I’m so glad it did! It is a story of an older brother’s influence on his younger sister and the rest of their family. Like all her stories, the characters in this book are living and real. And Christ is the central theme in the pages.

On Yonder Mountain Grd 1-2

On Yonder Mountain by Milly Howard

This story was written for younger readers, but it’s such a sweet story about a girl who has two brothers, and only boy cousins. She is very excited about starting school so that she can finally have a girl to play with. Only, there is no girl. This story is a delight. It deals with forgiveness, kindness, and friendship.

A Brother Beloved

A Brother Beloved by Francena H. Arnold

This is another of my favorite authors. And for those who like a bit of romance in their story but not have it be the main focus, this (and her other books) might be just right for you. Often you read stories about prisoners in Germany after WWII, but what about Russia? This has it. But it’s so much more than that! It’s about family, about healing, about what Christ can do in a person’s life, and . . . Well, you’ll just have to read the book.

Fool's Gold by Stephen Bly

Fool’s Gold by Stephen Bly

The family in this story is just delightful! The setting isn’t your normal California gold mine town, it’s the dessert. I really liked how the family stood up for what was right (sometimes because they didn’t have the money to do a certain thing) even if it meant doing something different. (I haven’t read the other two books in the series, but I want to.)

Star of Light (Patricia St John Series)

Star of Light by Patricia St. John

I remember reading this story for the first time many years ago. I loved it! And I still do today. I loved Hamid’s love and care of his litter sister. And ever since I read this book, I’ve liked the name Kinza. The setting, the characters, the story line–everything was good. I need to go read it again. Be right back. . . .

Are you ready to visit all the other Party Rooms–er, blogs? Have fun and don’t forget to leave comments, add books to your TBR list and enter the giveaway! Oh, and these will open in a new tab, so don’t worry, you won’t get lost in the acres of land around the Literary Lodge. πŸ™‚

4.5 stars. This is an amazing book for any single girl. It isn’t an ends-happily-for-ever-after book. It’s a trust-the-Lord-and-wait book. I highly recommend it. It really blessed me with its thoughts of singleness and waiting for God’s plan. It was also humorous and just enjoyable.

On Yonder Mountain sounds like a sweet story. It sounds like it could be similar to that of Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott or They Loved to Laugh by Kathryn Worth, two of my favorite books.
