Welcome to the Literary Lodge and the 4th annual Five Fall Favorites party! There is such a lot of fun planned for this week, that I hope you’ll be back every day!
Just a side note here, Kate, who helped inspire, plan, and co-host the first three FFF parties, was unable to help this year, so I asked Sarah, who has been a part of it every year, if she would step in this year. She quickly agreed, so make sure you tell her thanks! π I couldn’t have done it without her.
But, come in! Come in! It’s a bit chilly here this morning. Aren’t the leaves on the trees around the lodge just glorious?Β And the lake is so still this morning that it’s almost a perfect mirror image of the lodge and all the trees! If you want to gather some books and go sit in the boats down on the lake, go ahead. Of if you want some sunshine, there are some benches in the clearing over near the bonfire. You might want to take some blankets though, if you plan to stay and read anywhere for a while, for I don’t think it’s supposed to warm up much until tomorrow. The barn is a good place to visit and enjoy a lovely book or two. If you get tired of sitting, grab one of the bikes and take a ride around the lake, or through the woods and over the hills. There are so many acres to explore! You can borrow a backpack to carry your books if you didn’t bring one. And if you get hungry you are welcome to stop at the orchard and pick a few apples if you’d like. There might even be some empty bushel baskets you can use for collecting books. If you get too chilled, come back to the lodge and get some hot drinks. There might be some hot apple pie coming out of the oven in a little while too.
Now, before you run off to some party room, let me give you a quick tour so you don’t get lost. Each of the participating blogs/party rooms have their own Top 5 books to share from today’s genre. (Sometimes one of the blogs will have switched out a genre but that doesn’t happen often.) The buttons to read these rooms are down below. One of them is going to give a FREE short story to anyone who wants it! It’s the Books room, and somewhere on their post they’ll share the link to it. (Remember, the rooms change every day.)
The giveaway is down below also, so don’t forget to visit all the other rooms and comment, follow, sign up, etc. because that’s going to earn you more entries into the amazing giveaway we are offering! This is the biggest giveaway we’ve done so far. Now have fun exploring and finding new books to read!
Real Heroes
Heroes. Often when I think “Hero” I think of daring rescues, or valiant police officers taking on bad guys, or courageous firefighters battling angry flames. But there are other heroes. And some may just be normal people doing what God has called them to do. There are so many different kind of heroes to choose from! It was hard to pick just five books to share, but I tried to choose a variety of heroes
We Pulled Together and Won! by Clancy Strock
I know I’ve shared one of these reminisce books before, but if you want to read about heroes, this book if full of them. Some are members of the military during World War II, others are folks who stayed at home. Women who joined the workforce so the men could go fight, children who collected scrap and bought war bonds. This book is full of stories and pictures. And the best part? They are true! Yes, this is a collection of REAL stories and photos. A must for all WWII history lovers.
Mountain of Fire by Paul Thomsen
This has some really exciting moments for such a short book. While written for children, this kept my interest. When Mount St. Helens erupted, stories of daring rescues and hazardous flights were lived out. Well written and recommended.
Jungle Doctor series by Paul White
I read this entire series and enjoyed it. While Dr. Paul White might not be what most people would consider a “normal hero” he is. He risked his life many times in his work in Africa to help the people and to share the love of Christ.
Omar State Police Dog by S. P. Meek
This story was full of action. Omar is a German shepherd who was considered “dumb” but ended up being one of the most useful police dogs. Written back when police dogs were used more for show than for actual work, this is a fascinating look at what a police dog can do. And much of it is based on real events. Who said heroes only have two legs?
America’s Heroes by Joseph J. Bannon Jr.
You want heroes? This book is full of them. In some ways this is a hard book to read for the stories hurt, the pictures show images of wreckage and faces of hurt and pain. But at the same time this book is filled with courage and bravery. It’s a reminder that in spite of our differing views, when America is in trouble, her people will rise up and unite to defend her.
Are you ready to visit all the other Party Roomsβer, blogs? Have fun and don’t forget to leave comments, add books to your TBR list and enter the giveaway! Oh, and these will open in a new tab, so don’t worry, you won’t get lost in the acres of land around the Literary Lodge. π

Hereβs my review for the day… I posted it on amazon but it wonβt come live for a while since they have to process it.
A Bear Called Paddington by Michael Bond
5+ stars & 6/10 hearts. This was my introduction to the Paddington books, and I love it. It is hilarious and well written and so British and realistic. There are a few euphemisms; also the last chapter has Paddington conjuring but I think you can edit it pretty well when reading it aloud. My little siblings love listening to Paddington, and itβs an excellent readaloud… if you donβt laugh too easily! xD

Good review. I think I may have read a Paddington Bear book when I was young. I know about him, but I don’t recall what I read. π
