Good morning! Glad you were able to make it back to the Literary Lodge today! Boy, do we have books for you today!
You may need to grab one of those empty bushel baskets that are by the kitchen door today because of all the books we’re going to share with you. I wonder how many of you will disappear out on the lake in one of the boats, or in the barn with only a stack of books beside you today. Perhaps you can find an empty bench not too far from the Lodge to browse through your stack of books. Sorry, the baskets on the bikes will only hold so many books, but if you wear a backpack too, you can take more along. When I checked the weather, there were clouds moving in, and they might bring cooler weather, so this afternoon might be a good time to move closer to the bonfire or take a blanket with you if you are headed out to explore.
If you are new here, let me give you a quick tour before you go running off. Each of the participating blogs/party rooms, have their own Top 5 books to share. The buttons to read these rooms are down below. But one of them is going to give a FREE short story to anyone who wants it! It’s the Books room, and somewhere on their post they’ll share the link to it.
But don’t forget to visit all the other rooms and comment, follow, sign up, etc. because that’s going to earn you more entries into the amazing giveaway we are offering! It’s so good that we all wish we could enter it ourselves.
There are too many book to share to keep you standing there, so here are my Top 5 books in today’s genre. If you wish to add a book to your TBR (To Be Read) list on Goodreads, or just read more about the book, find the link on Amazon, or whatever, click on the book image.
The Chautauqua Series by Isabella Alden
An 8 book series
Written by my favorite author of all times, these series follows four friends from their very first trip to Chautauqua where, instead of just having a lark, they find Christ, through life. Sometimes there was sorrow and difficulties, other times laughter and joy. The final book takes the four girls, now mothers and grandmothers, back to meetings of Chautauqua. Some of the books were harder to read because of what was going on, but others I absolutely love! Highly recommended.
Grandma’s Attic by Arleta J. Richardson
A 10 book series+ A Christmas book
I imagine that most of you have read these delightful series. The first books start out with stories of “Grandma–Mabel” when she was a girl. As Mabel and her best friend, Sarah Jane, grow older, the books change from short stories, to a full book told by Mabel. Always full of laughter and maybe a few tears, these books are loved by young and old alike.
The Moody Family by Sarah Maxwell
An 11 book series (including the Christmas book)
There is not much that is really exciting about this series, but who needs excitement when you have Mitch and his brother and sisters? This series covers two normal years of the Moody family who are an average homeschool family living in Kansas. They do things that other families do. Relationships between the siblings, and their parents is sweet, and I enjoy reading the books.
Bret King Mysteries by Dan Scott
A 9 book series
You want a bit of excitement? Mysteries and good, western fun? You want a family that enjoys and looks out for each other? Let me introduce you to Bret King and his family. We first came across one of these books at a thrift store and picked it up. We were hooked. They are full of fun and mystery, but the kids are not smarter than the police, the parents are not ignored, and friends all watch out for each other. The series is set in New Mexico and take place in the late 1950s to early 1960s.
Danny Orlis by Bernard Palmer
Over 70 books in the series
This is by far the longest series I’ve ever seen. Each book is fairly short. The series start when Danny is in his early teens. Most of the early books involve a mystery, as well as excellent Biblical advice woven into the story. As Danny grows older, he falls in love, gets married and the stories continue. Many of the later books (after Danny is grown) are about the day to day struggles of living a Christian life in the midst of temptations and struggles from worldly friends. There has been only one book that I got rid of because if felt like it was giving too much information about sin. There is also a spin-off series of 4-6 books about Danny’s adopted twin siblings.
And now, here are the buttons to take you to the party rooms! Have fun and don’t forget to leave comments, add books to your TBR list and enter the giveaway! Oh, and these will open in a new tab, so don’t worry, you won’t get lost in the acres of land around the Literary Lodge.
I will be sharing a downloadable pdf on Saturday with ALL the Top 5 books shared this week, so be sure you come back for it.
