Dear Readers,
I’m having a lovely time at camp. My cabin mates are great and I’ve gotten more written during my crazy weeks then I thought was possible. And Writing Sprints . . . Yep, I didn’t know how fun they were until I did my first one and broke through my “don’t want to write” problem. I’m in the “Chatter Box” cabin which is aptly named because we love to chatter!
Some girls stay up really late, but they stay quiet enough so I don’t have trouble sleeping. Usually I get up early and go outside to watch the sunrise and have my quite time, and by the time I get back to the cabin, there are usually a few girls sprinting, or chatting. Of course some still slumber peacefully, oblivious to the stories being created around them. . . .
So, some of you aren’t quite sure what “Camp” I’m talking about. Camp NaNo is a virtual camp for writers. You create your profile page (to introduce yourself to your cabin mates), create a project page (in camp you get to decide what you want to work on and what your goal for the month is), and you get assigned to a “cabin” or you can start one yourself. Each “cabin” holds 20 people so you get 19 others to swap ideas with, chatter to, and get excited about their books.
I had heard of Camp NaNo before, but always thought it was like NaNoWriMo in that you had to write 50k words. I don’t have time to spend most of my days just writing, so I hadn’t even looked into it. At least not until a friend said I could set my own goals. Then I got interested. I still wasn’t sure about it, but I’m loving it!
My word count is just past the 1/2 way mark (13k out of 20k) which is exciting as last week was CRAZY! There were days I never would have even thought about writing if I hadn’t been part of “camp.” I’ve almost finished “Dylan’s Story” and have gotten a good bit written on my story about an author who is writing about an author. π Perhaps I can get another short story written for my Friday blog. And I’m hoping to work on my co-authored short story soon.
Anyway, I’m really enjoying Camp NaNo and am even thinking about doing it again in July. Anyone want to join me?
What about you? Have you ever participated in Camp NaNo? Or in NaNoWriMo? If so, what did you think about it? If you haven’t, would you consider doing Camp sometime?
P.S. Next week I’m going to be having a party on my Friday blog. I’ll post the invitation here, but if you like books, writing, and/or jewelry, you won’t want to miss it. π

I have only recently heard about Camp NaNo and it looks a lot more easier for me than NaNoWriMo! I would love to join you in July!

Oh, good! Yes, I think setting my own goal has been good and being able to swap ideas, encourage other, and be pushed to write even on the days I never would have written has all been good for me. I’m already looking forward to July. π

Do I have to pay?(!!!) Or is it just like, I enroll, and “do my job”?
Thanks a lot!!
I am obviously very new at all of this… I’ve only heard of NaNoWriMo a couple months back…

You don’t have to pay at all. It’s enroll and get writing. π Are you thinking of joining some time?
Odelia C. says
Maybe.. I’ll have to do a bit of permission asking(from my parents) and a lot of scheduling before I can join, I think…
I hope I could!!
(busy writing my first book….)

You can set your own goal even if it is just 2k words, so don’t too worried about that. It has helped me get a lot more written. Today I’m trying for 5k. A new record if I can do it. π
Let me know if you have more questions, or if you can do it! I’d love to invite you to join my cabin. π
Odelia C. says
None at the moment… Thanks for all your help!!

π I’m having a great time “at camp.” Thanks for urging me to come. π Even if I have to set a low writing goal, I’m planning on doing July. These sprints are really making me get more writing done.

Love, love, love your letter to readers π So accurate! I was introduced to sprinting last year, but never wanted to do them. But this year I’m enjoying them so much! The words pile up so nicely π

Hi Olivia! I heard about sprints at the beginning of the month but kept thinking that I wouldn’t like them, but when one of the girls offered to sprint with me when I was stuck, I thought I might as well give it a try. π I was hooked. It’s been a lot of fun! I can’t believe Camp is almost over!
